J. Loh judged a local show at McDonogh School today. While I didn't have the privilege of showing under her, I heard a LOT about the judging today and hers was the ONLY name about which I heard all positive remarks. Knowing the people who did ride in her ring, and their parents, that is an accomplishment indeed since I know they tend to be a picky bunch. So she must have been doing something right! Thanks for a job well done!

Thank you for the kind words. I truly love to judge. Judging kids is probably my favorite.

In all seriousness...judging that mini short stirrup yesterday was hands down the HARDEST thing I've EVER EVER EVER had to do!!! 13 perfect little girls sitting perfectly on perfect ponies. Not a single one of them even missed a diagonal. THey were like cookie-cutter images of each other. So so so good. Kids who didn't receive a ribbon rode as perfectly as the girls who won. It was honestly not fun. Leadline was a BLAST! I love talking to those kids and it's nice to see such a large turnout in leadline.

It always rakes my nerves when I hear people complaining a/b judging. Unless you are sitting in the same spot as the judge and you have watched every single solitary round stride for stride - keep your trap shut :) You are paying for an opinion.

Ah, but see J.Loh, I think this is probably why people love your judging--you try to watch every single round stride for stride which means you're less likely to miss some major mistake that makes people cry "unfair" "blind judge" or any of those other types of comments! ;)

I actually have video of a judge searching through her purse, looking for her ringing cell phone through my entire round. She never looks up even once. All she saw was my opening circle and me leaving the ring. She pinned me second. Exactly the same ribbon as the class before, which she watched, so she just guessed where to place me. Nice. :psycho:

LOL Witchy - there are definitely people that should be stripped of their judging cards...no doubt a/b it.

My judge yesterday totally missed my 2nd round...sitting with his back to the ring at that point. LOL

Don't feel alone, oh hunter friends. Blind judging seems to be in all disciplines.

My last dressage show, I had a total brain fart in my 2nd level ride. I was supposed to canter across the short diagonal to E, counter-canter to H and then a simple change. What I actually did was head straight out of the corner to H, realize 3/4 of the way there I'd screwed up, tried to cover it up by half-passing to H, where my mare did an unasked for flying change. The judge should have rung me off-course, or at least given me a "0" for the movement since there was no counter-canter and no simple change at all. I got a "7", with no comments. LOL

Haha yes the judge yesterday spent more time gazing off into the woods than watching the courses, it was so blatantly obvious, it was just amazing!

Nice to meet you Heineken, did you end up reserve? Your boy is super cute

Ahh I know the feeling=) It's great when you realize all the progress you have made! Yesterday was not one of those days for us however- LOL! Although with all of the horses peeking at the dilapadated rolltop all day, I was starting to get nervous about it, but he was a brave boy... and I buried him in front of the oxers a couple of times and he jumped over with no complaint (normally he squeals at me when I piss him off) so I guess I will hang my hat on those little positives :teehee:

I figured most ammys post on the COTH, and some of the comments you were making I was chuckling about, so I figured I would ask. There is no shortage of witty people on this board and the other one! They make up for the many witless folks!

After Culpepper, do you plan on doing any local shows at all? We have Hollyhurst this weekend (great practice for culpepper btw :innocent: ), then two weekends after doing State College. You are on a roll now, gotta keep him out there and showing ;) give me a heads up if you come up to PA again and have much fun at Culpepper!!

The mini-stirrup kids ARE great this year! They've gotten to be real pros. They all puffed up with pride when the announcer passed on your compliment to them all. :)
