and I don't really see it, but may be you guys do.............. If you don't mind doing a little critique, I would really appreciate it the rider is my daughter, the horse is my school pony who has been on vacation for the past year due to no one really wanting to ride her, so my daughter decided enought is enough you are going back to work and took her to a local schooling show in the jumpers and had a blast, jumps were suppose to be 2'9 but most of them were 2'6. thanks muchly, I really do appreciate it !! I know nothing about jumping form, but in that second photo, the eye on the horse looks quite anxious... |

As a jumper, he has great form. Very tidy with his front end, jumping with proper form in the first picture. In the second, he may have gotten too deep to the base of the fence and had to hang his leg a bit. His expression is not what I would expect to see in a jumper, as he does look a bit worried or not happy about what he is doing. He is a little round, but that is function of having a year off I would expect. Who is your daughter riding with now? |

Thanks LD and Lawndart totally missed the worried look, thanks for pointing it out, she a worrier regardless in what you do she isn't riding with anyone right now, John broke his leg and hasn't been mobile for a while, so once he back up and running we'll go back with him, Silke coached her at the show and did really well with her, it's too bad she's moving because the kidlet want's to go back to her but Richmond is too far to drive thanks almosta |

Horse is very cute but from the pictures looks a little worried about the job at hand. I think she could benefit from some time with someone on her that can tell her what to do and give her some confidence. Sometimes the schoolies have to do it all and have to rescue themselves often enough that they worry. Unfortunately, I'm not sure you're daughter is that person. She looks loose enough that she's not going to provide this schoolie with confidence...especially in the first picture. From that shot, I would say she needs to go back to crossrails. The second is a little better, but rider is still VERY ahead of the motion. She gives the impression of being "on top" of the horse and not "around" her. How short are her stirrups? IMO, she's one of the few that actually need to lengthen them some to get her booty out of the sky and back close to the saddle. If she were to go for the ideal 90 degree angle behind the knee, she'd STILL be too far out of the saddle. |

Probably two? Maybe one and a half. Then she needs to work on sinking down into her heel and wrapping her leg around the horse. I was going to mention the release...but didn't want to be too critical. For her level, she needs to use a long release (which she is trying to). Her hands are about where they should be, but her reins are too short. She's using the crest in the first picture, which is good, but in the second, her hands are floating over the crest and not providing her any support. If this horse were to stop or prop at all, your daughter would come off. That's not a great place to ride from. |

I too thought her stirrups were to short causing her to stand in her stirrups and be way out of the saddle. Im bad about shortening my stirrups to much. It comes from riding so many small ponies where I have to jack them up so my feet dont drag the ground. Have her put them down one hole at a time. Dont try to get her to do more then one hole in a ride. She is going to feel like she has no ability to stay on and use her leg. |

She does a much nicer job on that horse, but I still feel her stirrup is a bit short. One thing that has helped one of my girls that rode like your daughter does is to trot over small (like 18"- 2') fences and just stay in two point with all her weight into her heals and hardly bend at the waist. I always tell them "think about jumping into your heels". I bet once she puts her stirrups down and pushes her weight into her heal everything else will fix itself. |
