I went out with Dora today to Frying Pan to have some fun. She was so good, did a little ditch, the water, logs, etc. I went with Sonya Crampton and Suzanne Konefal, my neighbors on the farm I live on. Suzanne kicked some butt on her Yankie schooling for Rubicon. It looked so fun! Water, banks, skinnies. It kind of gives me the bug. I really think more Show jumping riders (which is really my true dicipline) should do at least lower level eventing to learn what great skills they have to get out of sticky spots. For some reason though I get less nervous on the lower cross country. I love the varieity and skill required to complete the "tasks" at hand. The best lessons I ever had was with my trainer in Peru, a former Cadre Noir (Samur) graduate. Fun stuff. Dora the Shire was great. She's a great to learn the ropes. Anybody else do the BN or Novice on a draftie? Great morning we had!!

I know *exactly* what you mean LG!!!! I went XC a few weeks ago for the first time in 20 years... the mare I'm on PACKS XC (dressage we're not going to discuss ), and we were flying over fences. I had no idea how big they were until Coach said, "ok Ibex, this one is a Pre-Training (Novice) fence". I commented that she wasn't supposed to tell me these things (I'm prepping to go Entry/BN). She looked at me, started to laugh, and pointed out that we'd been schooling some of the training fences all morning . It never occurred to me that they were as big as they were. Mare is an ex-Prelim horse, so it just felt easy...

LG, glad you and your Dora had so much fun! Of course Miss Rosie is a draft X and she is out at N level now. She loves it and actually gets a little too excited sometimes. You know how strong those Draft mares are so DH has his work cut out for him to get her back for a good jump! He has become a much better rider after doing eventing for a year. Many more decisions to be made. He loves to gallop so it is the sport for him! Take a look at a picture from one of their recents HTs. Edited by gunnar, Jun 4 2008, 10:46 AM.

I found this girl last week on DreamHorse and I WANNNNNNNNT her!! http://www.dreamhorse.com/show_horse.php?form_horse_id=1231069 Where are the pictures of Dashing Dora????

IMO, there are some aspects of XC that are easier than stadium. You have A LOT more time to prepare for most fences and in the lower levels you only have one or two combinations on the entire course so you only have to worry about one fence at a time. I know for me, who HATES lines, XC is sort of a breath of fresh air. |
