Just to come to my fellow cannuckian's defense... the weather this weekend at the show was horrible. It rained and was cold and generally miserable on Saturday. I dont think Sunday was a whole lot better either. My coach was there showing and told me yesterday how awful it was. BT may still be trying to remove the water wings from Chaz and that is why she has not posted here yet. |

Hey kids, I'm baaaaccckkkkkkkkk I freakin leave for the weekend, and don't you guys just renovate the house and change the decor I had a small panic attack this morning trying to log on , when I was told that I couldn't but s'ok, they said I could as long as I play nice (or use a correct password, can't remember which )So, I am bagged and exhausted and way too old for this hard work! But the show did go pretty well - a few ups and downs, but overall pretty well. Diva is right, the weather sucked but I was very fortunate and didn't actually get rained on. (Diva - who is your coach?) Thank goodness, because I only have one pair of white full seats so I was trying very hard to keep them white during 6 rides over 3 days. As in 6 tests complete with full warm up for each As in very tired ass horse and rider. They open the rings to warm up in on the Thursday prior to the show and I did not take advantage of that, worried that it would be too much for us by Sunday. I am glad that I made that decision, although it took us our first test to relax in the ring we were riding in, however it was a warm up test anyway, so that was fine. Chaz did surprise me on day 1 with a very nervous reaction to the warm up ring. He's fine with the water trucks, golf carts, scooters, any of that stuff. But some of those massive upper level dressage horses doing extended canters and tempi changes and piroouettes just got him tied up in knots and leaping off the ground, all 4 feet at once And then someone cantered towards us and he spun and tried to leave. And 2 minutes later we went into the ring for our first test. Which..needless to say...was somewhat tense..... However the judge was kind and we got a 56.5% and then the rest of the scores went up each ride so that was awesome. My goal was to get a 60% and I ended up on Sunday with a 59.74% so it was very close. And I was quite happy with our test so that was great. After the second test of the day on Friday, I tried to hand walk Chaz through the warm up ring, along the fence to go back to the stalls. I got half way through and he started freaking out and going up on me. That's so not Chaz. I got him out of there and he jogged back to the stall, even after 2 hours of being ridden. So I was extremely creative on where I would warm him up after that and by Sunday I could go back in a different warm up area if there were quiet horses in there. It was a big surprise to me, took me quite off guard and certainly added to my tension level. Luckily for me, he was generally very well behaved in the show ring itself so I just had to figure out how to get him there happily and it was all good. The trainer I went with, who I had only met once before, was awesome. She's 6 months prenant so not riding but her husband is a gorgeous rider so they had a couple of client horses there and then 5 other clients riding their own. Really fun and nice group so that worked out well. And luckily for me, Jump The Moon came up for the entire weekend (she is certainly Chaz and my calming person) and helped me so much with getting into the rings and keeping Chaz happy and gorgeous. she was finally able to hand walk him through the scarey warm up ring (there are 5 rings and 5 corresponding warm up rings) back to the barn after the Sunday afternoon test. Of course, we had had to wake him up in the stall to get him ready to go for that ride and could only prompt him to get up after we brought out the carrot bag! I was crazy busy yesterday with physio and a board meeting and laundry piles everywhere so that's what I was doing. And I don't have many pictures alothough I will order a few. We did take some around the stalls though and I will post those. I am bagged....but we survived

Hey BT...My coach is called Robin Byrne. She rides one of those massive upper level dressage horses -- fourth level and prix st georges. She rides with Belinda Trussell and her husband. Glad you survived the weekend! I almost went with Robin, but my parental units came for a visit so I stayed home. When is your next show? And where?? |

BT, so glad you did so well and survived the brief explosions!! I can so relate, as my former event horse was always horrible in warm-up, as in I was dumped in warm up rings more times than I like to recall. Then it became a vicious cycle, as I would get tense warming up and so would he. Just let us in the ring!!! I am so glad JTM was there to lay a calming hand on both of you!! Good job!! |

Yup, bat shite crazy is right Jaci It's gonna take me a week to recover. And Chaz is probably feeling about the same way.We didn't get a ribbon, however did manage to come 7th (they pin to 6) out of 17 on Saturday so that was pretty good. And He really did try for me. As tired as we were, each ride built on the previous one so that was way cool. Sadies Mom, I hear you about the warm up. And the more tense you get, so do they. It's just a vicious cycle for sure. You guys would have laughed at me off warming up in little areas adjoining the stabling and strange places like that. And Chaz was chugging "Chill" and I was swigging " Rescue Remedy" so we both probably would have blown over a breathalizer Diva, I remember seeing her name but don't remember if I saw her or not. Although it's a much quieter show than the hunter jumper shows at the same venue, it still is the largest one in Canada so I didn't know who I was watching most of the time. JTM is trying to talk me into going to the July one and I'm trying to decide between that and the Provincial level one in July at the venue that I really enjoy (Caledon Cadora). It's amazing how much easier showing just the 2 days is compared to the 3 days. If you do come out, let me know well in advance so we can get together. And I really want to just take the stirrups off my saddle to develop my sitting trot better before I go out again anywhere. I have been working so hard on it and it was really coming at home, but you throw in a horse show and some tension and it all goes to he77 in a handbasket

BT, glad to hear you survived. Sorry Chaz was such a spaz My Bodie can be bad day one in the warm up too. I cannot imagine sitting the trot, at least not on Big Trot Bodie, for 6 dressage tests. How awful. When I was the Eq. queen I could sit his trot but not now! All I can do is flop around like a sack of potatoes don't you know! I cannot wait to see any pictures you may have so we can get a real sense of the show. Sound like you had fun at least. 3 cheers for JTM being there for you. It is nice to have that kind of support from your lovely daughter! Tell her thanks for taking such good care of you! I look forward to your next bigt adventure!

Huge congratulations on jumping back into the show ring! I know how hard it can be to get back into the swing of showing again after an extended break- hey, I nearly had a meltdown just trying to figure out where all my show clothes were after all those years! I'm glad things went overall, and it sounds like you had some very respectable rides for the first time back in the ring. It sounds to me like Chaz was a pretty good boy considering the weather and all the excitement, and it will all just be ho-hum to him after a couple more shows. Were you showing First? I think I remember you saying that, although I could have just made it up in my head. Very, very nice of JTM to come play groom/therapist! Any more shows planned any time soon? I had planned on a pretty full show season this year, but my mare has just been diagnosed with EPSM, so we're taking a break for her to get used to her new diet and recover a bit. She's coming back really well, though, so maybe we might try again in the fall if she's fit and able. |

Oh T! Miss Luna's Dam had that, and we're pretty certain Luna does as well (since it's genetic). Fortunately, once you get them going on the diet, things are pretty easy to manage and they feel SO much better!! Luck to you and to Miss T. BT...are in DIRE need of photos!! I can't believe you rode in SIX classes... Good on ya Darlin'!!!!!!

Six classes and not one photo? I am soooooo depressed! But you survived, Chaz behaved (for the most part), and JTM did a good job of assisting and grooming, if not picture taking. Maybe the camera, full of lovely images of you and your steed, is still in the tack truck? I'm hoping! |

Aw, Jilli, please don't lip quiver I can't help it if I'm stoopid It's just been crazy busy because we had one day of rest and then baby horse (Skye) went up to the horse show on Tuesday for his first ever time. So, I've been trying to get everything put away from my show and JTM's stuff out for her baby boy. And teach, etc. in the meantime. and then there's my incredible skills getting the pictures from the camera to the computer...... and then the problem that there aren't actually any pictures of us together in the camera. Just a few of the stalls and a tired Chaz getting hugs and kisses from JTM. I am ordering some from the photographer who took a kazillion and will post those when the heck I get them, I promise. So bear with me and keep taking lots of photos of lovely Lilly and Fashionista Luna
