Would like to know if anyone feels like I do.

I have nothing against Big Brown. He is a good looking talented horse but his trainer leaves a lot to be desired horseman wise. He uses steroids because his vet recommended them but he never asked one question about it?!

Maybe I am old school but I like my triple crown winners to be more of the epitome of what racing SHOULD be about. Everything that I have read about this guy says the opposite, esp about being in trouble for illegal substances with his horses wherever he goes.

Does this not matter anymore or is it winning at any cost?

I realize that I am probably in the minority here because I know that so many are hungry for a Triple Crown winner and I have seen 3 in my lifetime so perhaps I don't feel the urgency ( although I would have loved it for Barbaro and a few others because of their people)

Any thoughts or am I out here by my lonesome?

You are not. If this horse wins the Triple Crown he will be rewarded (and has been rewarded already with winning the first two legs) for his bad behavior. The guy shouldn't be training!

His arrogance is so off-putting too. Confidence is okay and even a bit of cockiness once in a while but WHOA! Tone it down buddy!

Sorry for the language, but I think he's a dickwad. I'm not privy to the racing world, but having known trainers who get set down a lot, they don't tend to change their ways. They just get better at hiding it.

I can't believe he said that he doesn't know what it does but he lets the vet inject steroids once a month. ?????

Racing is not the same anymore. :lonely: :sigh:

Back in the day it was pure racing, no drugs, no extra money bonus ect. Horses were hard knocking and there were fewer injuries. I just found out that they are writing races for two year olds in June. People are just crazy to race them that young.

Although I'd love to see a triple crown winner, and think this horse can do it if he's healthy, I hope they have the good sense not to run him if his new quarter crack is too bad. And if he does win, it's kind of a catch 22. Think of all of the people that will flock to breed to a horse with a history of foot problems and with bloodlines that aren't know for producing the sturdiest horses.

I've been seeing his feet on photos on the net. :,( :,( :,(

Sorry, I watched Ruffian crash and burn. :rose: :candle: Some awful soul sent me the vid of Eight Belles, and after all the Event horse losses plus Teddy O - I can't muster the enthusiasum for a horse that should not run with a quarter crack and his glued on feet.

Run for what? Money. For the owners. His feet are awful. so they plan to breed him to reproduce those awful feet. Who cares if hes lame and crippled for life if he is a triple crown winner? *I* do. I think its wrong to be allowed to run an animal with feet in the shape his are in.

Can't muster the enthusiasum, sure that there will be another crash and burn - if not now, his offspring with their genetically messed up feet.

Just for the record, my understanding is that his feet are a result of poor farrier work when he was younger and are not likely to be passed on to any get. I still have qualms about him running, but I think genetically speaking, his feet are as good/bad as any other.

As of December 31st all use of Steroids will be banned in racing, until then states may volunterely start enforcing this. So far PA and DE have W VA has not.
It only levels the playing field when everyone can not use a substance, other wise they all want to use what ever everyone else uses whether it be NSAID or Bleeder help or anibolic steroids, vitamins, joint injections or taps, don't think for one minute that the other horses who won the triple crown would not have availed themselves to what ever was the flavor of the month.
Big Browns farrier attended a conference for farries recently and said the Quarter crack is no where near the hype that news media is making it. His feet were indeed a consequence of previously poor shoeing and trimmed to short not enough foot for him to work w/ in the time before Belmont.
Remember this is not "The Sport of Kings" but a mulit million dollar business and results are what counts in the largest precentage of times not how its acheived.
Did you know they surgically wire/stapel crooked legged yearlings knees to get them to grow straighter they also scrape shins? Its not just what apppens @ the track to the TB but for the high priced yearlings beauty and perfection at any cost to increase revinue @ the sales They are just getting around to trying to make this diclosed @ sale time.

This may be a conspiracy theory, but anyone think it's a coincidence now that Three Chimneys (Five?) has a breeding agreement Dutrow's stopped the anabolic steroids? Can't they cause sterility in humans? Is there any evidence that steroids cause sterility in horses?

According to Bill Mott on ESPN today, he said that Big Brown's sire, Boundary, had the exact same problem with his feet that BB does only he laid him off in order for him to heal, more than once so I am really wondering now

Mixed feelings here. I only saw one interview with BB's trainer and he seemed like as ASShat to me.

I still have mixed feeling about racing. I still say they're WAY TOO YOUNG to race at TWO!!! Imagine what a FULLY matured (mentally and physically) thoroughbred could do!!!!

I also feel sorry for Da Tara who ran a beautiful race, and got very little publicity afterwards because of the pre-occupation with BB. Typical.

Dutrow had a horse test positive for too much Clenbuterol and now might get set down for it.
