So, as some of you guys know I work for my family's business that mainly sells pins, hiking medallions, and other items to national and state parks. I've wanted to expand a little to the horse market for several years, and we are now selling dog collar tags, that can also be used as zipper pulls...they've done very well with horse people and our old customers, however I did a stall plaque for the Lexington Spring Festival shows for the special Amy Reistrup Eq Challenge and am starting to market these, working on ads to go in magazines.... I wanted to post here to get your guy's thoughts, they are approx 5 inches, and can be done in gold or silver, your own custom design with a minimum of 25. Where do you guys look for awards, I was going to do an ad in COTH, and have a few other ideas, but don't want to get tunnel vision (something I tend to do ) So, please give me some suggestions of where you think would be a good place to market. Here is a pic of the stall plate... ![]() We are also working on currently updating a new site (still a total work in progress, it seems to be going so slow) to be moved to our old one, if you want to browse around it can be seen here!! |

Thanks guys!!! Hehe, thats ok....I suppose my question of where do show managers look was directed to them, but I'm game on everyone else's opinions!! So, RHowell, you just need to convince show managers to buy them from me!!

The plate looks very nice, but I am being slow-- would this go on a plaque that would then be given as an award? Or just given out so that it could be put on a stall? Or something totally obvious that I am not getting?

My mistake it would be a stall plaque, given as an award. |

Ok, for the slow me then, this would be given to the winner, as is, for them to go home and then place it on thier home stall? In that case, I don't think as an exhibitor I would want this award. If there was some way to have a more personalized version, then yes, I would like the award. I love the look of the plaque and if it were a key chain, I would use it, or if it was able to have a name on it I would use it, but as is I would not put in on my horse's stall. I don't think barn managers would like you to drill holes and such on stalls needed to mount it. But it sure is pretty looking! |

That was kind of my thought too, I'm working on one that has a place in the center to be engraved with your name and horses...basically whatever you want....my artist is doing art as we speak on it.........that way the winner can take them to the local engraver and have them customized even more! |

The shows for the jumpers give these kind of things out all the time here. I call them coasters. Mr. Trainer hangs them up in the barn on the post between the groom stalls across from his wall of fame. (picture gallery) The ones we have are plastic. I like this one better. They have gotten them from Thunderbird and Spruce and some other shows around here. |

I think the plaques would be great, but I'd probably mount it on the wall in the house or tack room if I won one. Being able to personalize it with a name and date would be a plus (then when you're old and gray and unable to remember what you did to earn it, it's all printed out...good memories!). Having the wonderful "Petunia" lapel pin and zipper pull, I can vouch for how nice they are! (Any my husband liked them so much, he ordered some with our farm name on them; they just arrived and look GREAT!) Neighland, I sent some samples and literature to the VDHMA...hope that will gel into an order for you. I will send more of the same to the American Dexter Cattle Assoc. when R goes to their annual meeting in June. For people who put on annual shows, I think the zipper pulls and pins with the show's logo would make wonderful "thank you" gifts for volunteers and class sponsors. |

I'd be interested in knowing more about them, for sure. We are always looking for cool year-end awards. Can you give me an idea of cost? You can PT me if you like. |

The USHJA has them for their Derbys and they are cool. Make good trivets and such around the house. I think they are cool. I would do SOMETHING with it - if it were big enough, use it as a trivet, if not probably mount it on a piece of wood and and display it somewhere. |

The dog tags I would turn into custom key changes. I was thinking I would like to have something like that. I have the generic horse jumping key change but I like the yellow one with the horse jumping that I would want that as a key change... As for the stall plaques as prizes at shows. I would not want one. I would only want one if it had my horses name on it. |
