The problem being advertised would be that the horse flips its tail and you are tying the skirt up so that it will be less noticeable. Sort of like when people buy the dee with hooks to not advertise that the horse pullsand needs a pelham, but people see straight through it and it looks worse. In the mud, though- it's not as suspicious looking. I am not sure I'd do it in the dry weather, but the first day I ended up putting it up into a knot and they switched us into the indoor ring. I didn't take it out and we ended up winning a class, so I think it would depend on the judge. It's going to rain on and off this weekend, so I think I'll put it up again. I think it looks nice :)

He looks fabulous! I love the look, used to do my daughter's large pony any time I had an excuse and loved the look on her fat butt! Good luck at Upperville!

he looks great with it, but I'd only do a mudknot if the weather so indicates. wearing a mudknot when it's not rainy is like those darn paris hilton/Britney spears wannabes wearing UGG boots in the summer. It looks overly intentional "look at me".

The horse in the championship scrim was showing at a muddy show, even if he did have one class indoors-the word "mud" is in the mudknot for a reason.

I dunno -- I think I'd go with putting his tail up, regardless of the weather. Back in the day -- e.g., circa 1970s -- it was quite common to put a conformation horse's tail up to accentuate the booty, rain or shine. That and a checkerboard. We always put my pony's tail up because she had a fantastic butt and a neck that was slightly too short, so we wanted to accentuate the positive. She was third in the model at Devon, so it worked . . . I know people don't commonly do it anymore, but I don't think it's a faux pas if you do. With all the talk of wanting to show in brown field boots or rust breeches, I don't see this as being much different.

But if you do up the tail, I hope you do the checkerboard too. Do it. You know you want to! :woot:

I defer to Delia and her vintage knowledge....but if i were going vintage I'd do the whole look! You can't go half-arse retro.

now if only we could bring back the Corinthian classes!

I am sure we will go with putting his tail up. He looks really good with it up.

Finding a tail that will match will be difficult, and expensive. So I am not going for the 'look at me', more like going 'on the cheap'

Oh god, I'm "vintage." Otherwise known as old. So old that I used to wear those thin black garter strap thingies in formal classes with the shadbelly. And so old that I can't remember what they were called and why we wore them but didn't do the full-blown appointments. So sad . . . :lonely:

Anway, this debate probably is moot. You know it's going to rain.

LOL We had a ball playing dress up with Bear last night.

But we were a bit disorganized with the cameras--by the time we got him done (we threw in a set of quick jumper plats to complete the "look") we had no batteries in the big camera, and we were down to using my cell phone. It was Anna's idea to use the sepia effect to make it look even more "vintage."

I certainly felt "vintage" myself trying to master the Bluetooth concept to get it to my computer...

I think the votes are in and it's a definite mudknot for da Bear!

I'm not sure I've ever seen a mudknot in person. Actually...I may have never seen "mud." Ah...the luxury of living in CA :P
