My boy has a nice full tail......that only goes to his hocks :(
Trainer suggested a mudknot, which I think would look smashing on his big butt. Friends say go with a tail.

Out of curiosity, what would you prefer?
*I have no idea how he would react to either, we'll have to do a trial run on both. And a pic below of the boy himself (just an excuse to post his pic :P )

Ooh, the mudknot would be a really cool throwback look. What are you wearing? If you're going at all old skool, I say mudknot.

Fake tails creep my out a little, I've gotta' admit. They're a dead horse's tail. I agree they look beautiful on, but I don't know how I would feel about owning one, storing it in my house etc. It skeeves me. I also have a MAJOR aversion to mane and tail hair on living horses. It REPULSES me. Pulling mane makes me want to gag. I am weird.

Lego gets a mud knot when it's wet just to save the wear and tear on his fake and so he won't flip mud on everyone. He has an active tail. It worked out pretty wel for us at Lexington!

And, might I add, it makes him look bootylicious, which is hard to see with the cooler. I think they might look funny in dry weather though.

He looks pretty Old School Hunter enough to wear a mudknot. Plus, the fact you're even thinking about it means you're in an area where they know what it is... so DEF the mudknot.

If you lived here (where noone's even heard of let alone seen a mudknot) or if he were totally new style warmblood type, I'd say tail, but I think he'd look great put up.

I would say if it's muddy wear a mud knot but if it's not go fake! However if you don't want to spend the money to go with a fake tail I wouldn't worry about doing a mud knot either way....

Nice looking horse!

If it's nice weather and you have a mud knot, you're advertising a problem. Go with the fake, or at least only do the knot if it's bad weather!

It is a throwback to a bygone era-- that's what Upperville is all about!

???

What problem are you suggesting is being advertised? The horse in the championship cooler at Lex seems to have done very well despite his handicap!

Thin tails are a reality, short tails are a reality--they are not "problems."

Today is MUDDY--and WET. I think I will put in some braiding practice and see how Bear likes his tail up!

Mudknot. It will help him stand out.

As for whether it will be muddy, well...it is Upperville, after all!

Bear looked great in the mudknot trial earlier this week. He can be a tail swisher when he feels like it. I didn't notice it as much w/ the knot in it.
I'll probably have difficulty finding a right match to his tail. I don't have oodles of time or money to find one.
