Ok, all you shopinistas -- I keep thinking there must be some service or store out there like I'm looking for, but haven't found it yet.

Is there anywhere that sells a bunch of different types/makers of jeans and has trained staff (sorta like your own Carson) to help you decide what looks best on you?

I know what I'm used to wearing, but I can't help wondering if there is something I'd like better or would look/fit better but I just don't know about it?

For instance, I grabbed some lower rise (I have a ridiculously long rise and usually buy higher rise jeans) jeans, with a wider leg the other day and was surprised to find out that I <3 them.

But, the choices are overwhelming and I would love to have a guide that would honestly say "no, try these. Your butt looks HUGE in those."

Any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks!

Ooooh, that sounds promising! But, no Florida stores either and the online one seems to be men's only -- is that true of the stores as well?

I know this is one of those minor dilemmas -- but if there isn't a retailer that provides this service, there should be!! :)

What kind of jeans? I often find the people in Nordstoms to be very helpful and they have about 30 different styles of (very nice) jeans to try on.

I second the Nordstrom's suggestion. Or take a friend along whose fashion sense you trust and who will be honest with you. I go to a local boutique that carries about 6-8 different types of designer jeans and the owner is very knowledgeable and helpful. When I am not looking to spend the $$$ on the designer jeans, I go to Banana Republic. I love the fit of their jeans and pants, and they aren't expensive at all.

Mellie, I think we could be sisters!

I pretty much only wear designer jeans, or Banana Republic jeans.

I LOVE BR! They have so many different cuts, colours and price ranges. For instance, I am curvy so I wear their 'martian fit' in their jeans in dress pants. If you go during a sale, or especially to one of their outlets, you can find very nice jeans for $40-60. So I definitely second going there!

You wear the Martian fit????

I bought some jeans on sale at the BR outlet for $20 a pair! They only had 2 pair left in my size or I would have bought more! My fave designer jeans are my Yanuk jeans, I also like the 1921 jeans too.

Bensmom, you might also want to try Gap. They have a bunch of different fits, lengths, etc. I have had luck there.

You guys are great! I can hit Nordstroms the next time I am in Orlando (in May for my Barber's Board meeting -- yes, I prosecute hairdressers!) but you know, if there isn't a big jeans store with trained jeans fitters, there ought to be!

Maybe I should quit practicing law and dream up a retail store that hires Carson Kressley as its director of its merchandise and training sales associates!

On the list for when I win the lottery. <sigh>

Thanks for the suggestions!

Saks and Neimans also generally have whole sections dedicated to denim and employing denim specialists. I think the gentleman who started denim bar used to be the denim manager at Saks here in Tysons.
