KaliTude's mare GG is a 'ho fo' sho'. But she's a cute ho and very nice and easy to get along with. Kali and GG came up to my little farmette on Friday afternoon and GG settled right in and loved the country life! We went for a ride (Paddy got first dibs on Friday) in the arena and had a nice hack around, a little jumping, and a little trail ride around the neighborhood. GG was a good girl and didn't spook at the ducks flying out of the irrigation ditch or at the baby cow at the corner. Next day was Saturday - trail ride day. We took GG and Miles to a gorgeous wildlife protection area nearby. Picture green rolling hills with huge California oaks and cows grazing. It is true. Happy cows come from California. GG handled everything with grace and maturity. She opened and closed gates, crossed water, walked through herds of grazing cows, lead and followed, hopped over a little ditch. . . we saw hawks, coyote, deer, geese. . . OH, and there's a shooting range nearby, so for the majority of the ride we heard gunshots in the background! We were planning on having Mr. Fishy join us yesterday for XC schooling, but at 3 a.m. on Sunday I had to take him to the emergency room for a kidney stone. When we got home he insisted that I still go without him so I took his horse, the Tomato. GG is in love with the Tomato. When we got to the horse park we put them in the paddocks while we got ready and she had her girly-parts in his face and was doing girl-like "come-hither" things. But she is very good about it and not at all squealy or bitchy. We had a lovely XC schooling - we walked over a bridge, did a mini ditch, an up-bank, a down-bank, water, creek crossing, logs, etc. The ponies were SUPERSTARS!!! Sadly we didn't really take a lot of pictures. I think I took one of Kali and GG with the cows, but that's about it. At least there's some evidence! I think GG liked life in the country and she is a welcome guest anytime. The boys liked her but nobody got over-attached or over-excited. And since it is my topic, I'm going to give props to my fabulously awesome ponies who were good leaders and guides for GG to emulate! |

Fishy -- Sounds like you two had a blast!
Sorry to hear about Mr. Fishy though; I hope he's feeling better soon! If you have any pictures I'd love to see them! Sadly, I don't have a way to get my horse to join you guys -- nor do I think long trail rides are really his thing, so I doubt I'll be able to join you all anytime soon, but it sure sounds like fun! |

Nothing better than a great weekend filled with superior horses, good friends, and open land to ride on.

Kali, I'm so sorry about the job! Even though you knew it was coming, it still sucks to be out of work. I'm sure something even better will come along, though, and you'll look back on this as a blessing in disguise.

Kalitude, sorry to hear about the job, but the photo of you and GG has me laughing. Its pretty obvious she is keeping a close eye on those space aliens we call cows, just in case they would think of doing something nasty. Fishy, hope Mr. Fishy is feeling better. My dad gets kidney stones, and they take so much out of him. You and Miles look happy to be out and about.

Love the pics You all look great and I think GG is being very well behaved with the space aliens. Our baby horse is NOT fond of them and it's VERY evident.I have to say that I was a bit surprised with the western tack though. Silly me. I read Fishy's post and thought you guys were jumping all these cross country jumps and kind of went when I saw the saddles...

Silly BlackTack, the trail ride was on Saturday with our trail saddles and the XC schooling was Sunday with our jump saddles. We ARE crazy-obsessed horse ladies, after all, who have too many saddles for all the types of pony-fun we can have! Isn't Miles cute!!???

Yes. Yes he is. :D And once again I'm impressed with little Miss GG. Show would've run the other way at the sight of a cow. In fact, the one time we had some loose on the property (by accident) it took him close to a week to calmly walk by the area where they had wandered. Kali...so sorry to hear about the job. Grrrrr.

The crazy part is GG wanted desperately to CHASE the cows. She was totally obsessed with the cows, I could barely drag her away from them. I'd love to find a cowboy to do some fake "cutting" with her, I am not brave enough cause I know she can spin like a cutting horse (I had the bruise to prove it). I just know she would love some up close and personal time with some cows, and once she figures out she can chase them? It will be game time for sure. I'm actually not too bummed on the job thing. Almost 9 years there had me more than burned out, and the last year has been really terrible. The layoffs have been happening since last year as we outsource to India and replace more and more engineers with contractors. What was once easily one of the best places to work turned really unbearable. I'm just bored, and not looking forward to a new job and fumbling through learning a new company and processes after all these years knowing what I was doing! |
