I use the phone book, mostly for stores and restaurants. Ours has a really great section with menu's in it. Pretty much any time we decide we want to go out to eat we just open the phone book to figure out where.

SO is more computer oriented. He always looks on line.

I know I am a freak, but since I was a kid I have always looked forward to the new phone book arriving. :innocent: DH laughs at me because when we are in a hotel, on vacation, I read the phone book there, too. I always look up at least three things: "Stable", "Riding Academy", and "Horse". I may look up other stuff too, but always those categories.

Me too? How funny us horse types are!!

I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one who does this!! I always do this when I'm travelling and staying at a hotel. If I'm sharing a room with someone, I always wait until that person is out of the room or in the shower so I can search the phone book without feeling like a total freak. I remember my first winter in Ocala being so excited looking through the phone book and seeing all the Big Name barns that I had only read about in the Chronicle right there infront of me in the yellow pages.

Phone book story! When I was but a yout' lo those many years ago, I went to school, then lived and worked in Manhattan. The phone book there was a doozy, as you can well imagine in a city of 7 million people.

I was doing some consulting work and a team of us went to Nowheresville, West Virgina. There weren't many dining options in the tiny, tiny town we were staying in. The local waterhole had edible food, but low, low chairs. ( ) I'm not terribly short, but I was uncomfortable in the chair.

So I asked the waitress to bring me a phone book. I figured if I sat on the phone book, I'd be high enough to be comfortable. She looked at me like I had three heads.

"PHONE BOOK," I said, "You know that thing that has phone numbers on it. I"ll SIT ON IT. OKAY? GOT IT??"

She looked at me like I had six heads.

"I'm too LOW IN THE CHAIR. If I SIT ON THE PHONE BOOK it will raise me up so I can reach the table. PHONE. BOOK. BRING. PLEASE."

She brought the phone book for Nowheresville, WV, which was, like, 1/4 inch thick.

:teehee:

Lesson learned that tday. Context, baby! Context is everything.

Good story, RR!

It reminded me that a long time ago I used to do some typing for an economist who appeared on The Larry King Show. The gentleman (economist) was a tad on the short side. While watching the interview part where people could call in with comments and questions, my husband suggested I call in and ask how many phonebooks the economist was sitting on.
