I was in Sears yesterday, DH saw a Professional Power Sander and fell <3 . They only had the floor model, which they won't sell. OK, call your surrounding stores. Tried to look on the Sears site, it was down. The young man behind the counter said I need the zip code for those stores to get the phone numbers to call them. None of them are in MY hometown, or even that close, so I didn't know the zip either. Told him to grab the phone book. He said they won't be in the local phone book. Umm, yes, in the front of the phone book are the zip codes for most of the state (and always of the surrounding regions) along with maps, area codes, etc. He was amazed. Stood there holding the book helplessly. I told him look in the front. He couldn't manage it. I took it from him, found it. He honestly was helpless without the net. I told him each large town, or city had street maps in there too!! Skinny dude said "I just use mapquest". So I asked him what does he do if he can't access mapquest? He said, I call my Mom.

Honestly, if a Middle Aged non geek like me can learn to use the net (including mapquest ;) ) Surely he can learn something simple like using the phone book!!

I throw my phone book out when I get it - too much bulk to store, and I have my laptop! :innocent:

Ugh!! I feel your pain. It sometimes scares me at what these young kids DON'T know. Both of my kids are grown and out of the house :cheer: , at least temporarily!! :innocent: And I am still amazed at some of the things they ask. Luckily Mr. RNB does not have a clue regarding anything 'high-tech'. He only uses his cell phone about once a week....max. But because he is 'anti-tech' the kids were exposed to many pre-dinosauric ideas, thoughts and gadgets.....and they still occasionally ask "How old are you guys?"

Our phone book has coupons in it so is still usable when the net or 411 can't help you. Although I find the yellow pages on the internet frustrating at times because you could give the exact location and name of the place you are trying to get the number of and the yellow pages will not find it.

I know it is funny how there mind doesn't work beyound the computer. How do they manage in the outside world. Ever time my son asks me a question that could be found in the dictionary, I ask him where his dictionary is, the other day he ask me where the phone book was he need to find a phone number, he is only 12 and man it is nice to know that if the power goes out or there is no internet he will still be able to make it in this world.

I know I am a freak, but since I was a kid I have always looked forward to the new phone book arriving. :innocent: DH laughs at me because when we are in a hotel, on vacation, I read the phone book there, too. I always look up at least three things: "Stable", "Riding Academy", and "Horse". I may look up other stuff too, but always those categories.
