So my kid and I are going to drop off our Girl Scout Troop's April Showers donations today and as I was about to get in my car and this dirty little white thing comes running up! I grab her and of course, no collar :( She was wearing an electric collar but no name. I bring her up to the house and DH is not excited :P So I put a leash on her and we wander around the neighborhood, asked a few people if they recognized her-nope. DH calls the Humane Society to see if we can bring her in to see if she is microchipped. HS says yes-- but we can't leave her b/c they are full (oh well!) Take her in-- she is so full of mats they figure she has been out for awhile :( No chip. So we head out to drop our donations off. She is so good in the car-- lays in my lap and puts her head in the crook of my elbow and goes to sleep. Awwwwww. The girls at the donation site loooooooved her and held her while I got my paperwork turned in. Now we've been hanging out for the afternoon-- had some dog food, some water. My 60lb golden retriever likes her and hardly notices her. My big fat Lyra cat is totally intrigued and I haven't yet decided if she is scared or planning her attack  Little dog totally wants to play with Lyra and follows her around and kinda yips at her. This little thing is sooooo cute-- she gets all excited and lays down in the 'frog dog' position-- I love it!

I am making some signs to put around the neighborhood-- so we'll see :)

They say that pets pick their people...looks like it's you!

Electric collar as in invisible fence collar? I wonder if there's a way to track her owner through installers in your area?

It looks like she doesn't want to leave though. And someone else probably doesn't want her to leave. Uh oh.... <_<

Sweet! That's very much how one of my friends found her wonderful little dog. She was on a trail ride in woods adjacent to a residential area and this little white walking mat, err dog, saw them and followed them back to the barn. No response to flyers and there was a really, cute, sweet dog under all the mats who has now lived in the lap of luxury for the last 4 years. From looking at your daughter's face, I'm hoping no owners turn up!!

You are a brave person for putting up signs to try to find the owner! :P I would be inclined to keep her!

So far, so good with our little transient. We put an ad on craigslist, so far no takers. I have made the 'found' signs but they have yet to be put up :innocent: The kids love her but my 4 year old cannot get into his head that she is a dog, not a cat  He walks around saying 'here, kitty, kitty' we've told him a thousand times but its just not sticking. I think we should name her kitty :P.
So far she is really well behaved- DH weighed her and got about 9lbs, but I think about 3 of that is hair. She is so matted, its sad. You can't hardly even get to her skin b/c the hair is so thick. If she does stick around she is going to need to be shaved.

Cute dog! I hope you get to keep her!

I found a fabulous black Shepherd mix today circling my fenced yard. My 2 dogs were crazy! Great dog. I spent all day looking for her owner and finally had to take her to the animal shelter. She has no chip (I took her to my vet), does have a collar with a disconnected phone number and a home address. I went to that home and the people said it's not their dog. They lived there over 2 years! Must be a previous homeowner. The recent rabies tag was for a clinic that didn't answer, nor had an answering service  I told the animal shelter to call me if nobody came for her. I would take her and find her a home! I'm sure she is owned anyhow because she is gorgeous, clean and friendly.
I got home and a kid was across the street, sitting on the side of the road. With a leash! Cute pre-teen, crying :( She asked if I had seen her dog. She was excited to know I had had the dog and sad to know the dog was in jail. I told her I tried to hang on to the dog, but leaving her in my car all day wasn't working. Her parents had just left for the humane society. I told her to call me if they didn't find the dog. Never heard anything. Seems they just moved to a house a few doors down.

I am getting new name tags for my dogs!!!! Even with a chip, a current name tag is a must!

KEEP her, get her washed and clipped and no one will know who she is. She obviously wants to live with you, your family want her, keep her. She will look like this when she is clean and clipped. This is Freida, my puppy mill child.

Oliver is not pleased that one of his "appears to be mostly maltese" sisters is galavanting around and not being attended to. Running around and getting dirty is ALWAYS a good thing, but mostly when you have someone behind you being irritable about it.

Gracetw, fabulous picture. And, he is right. Kitty a bath, clip and then to be hidden out of sight. It would break my heart to see that beautiful child cry.
