You'll be in Jersey? That's only a few hours for me, so if you need any kind of respite, I can hop in the truck and be there!

Many, many thanks to everyone for the prayers and jingles. I also really like Robin's idea. Of course we thought our children would grow up with their beloved grandmother. That they will not is breaking my heart. And that we are 10,000 miles away makes this all the harder.

I need to start doing some reading and understand how to best manage this with my children. They are so little - 3 and 5. They know and love their grandmother, and I just have no thoughts on how to handle it all. I am sure there are people out there who know the sorts of things to do: what to tell them, when to tell them.

My husband is amazing. He is willing to let me do whatever I need to do now. Beyond the trip home next week, I don't know what that is.

And I continue to be sad. I'm not depressed - just incredibly sad. It feels like my heart is breaking. I am incredibly blessed in that I have many friends both here in Nanjing and in my real US based life and in this virtual life who are being incredibly supportive. I don't feel alone right now, which is really important.

Thank you all - thank you for your support and ideas.

Oh RR, I don't know what to say...a very heart-rending situation. Good that you will be coming back to spend some time with your mom. Do you have brothers or sisters who can help also? It's so hard when you have little ones, trying to handle it all with them as well, but you will know what to do and say when you need to...part of being a family.

Wishing you and your family all the best during this difficult time.

Oh RR. :( I'm just so terribly sorry. it's a horrible thing to have to go through.

My wee squid-o was 6 when her grandmother passed away (my hubby's Mom...also from cancer). They were very close and I am still sad/angry that she's not here with us today. For us, we were as honest as possible with our DD when she asked questions about what was going on. Having grown up with animals, we had lost a few, so I think she understood the basic concept. We also encouraged her to spend as much time with her Oma as possible, and as much time as Oma felt up to. There were many tears, many laughs, MANY special monents that were, in it's own way, a special gift.

I hope that you're able to find some solace through this horrible ordeal, and again my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Oh, Rennie. I'm so, so sorry. With my mom having BC (in remission) last year, and my MIL passing from a neuroendocrine cancer, I know what you're going through. Email or PM me anytime. Hang in there.
