I also hate being the centre of attention and was worried about that on our wedding day, wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy back when. We were fortunate that my Dad was a teacher at the military staff college in Toronto that is a large Tudor mansion with formal gardens. We were married in the garden and had the reception inside. I loved every minute of it (except when the drum caught on fire - hot band :teehee: ) because we had everyone we both love under one roof. Folks from Germany, England, the US and the west and east coasts of Canada. It's was perfect for us.

And if you decide you want to go to Vegas we will not disown you or Corey JTM. You can't get rid of us that easily ;) Although I must admit the Bermuda idea sounds wonderful :cheer:  :cheer:

I just think whatever any couple does, it has to be their dream. No one else's :cloud9:

...but then again, I would also totally get married at Disney World...

ohhh...allow me to indulge you.

You are in the Magic Kingdom. Evening is setting in. The trees have white lights. Your hubby to be is waiting in front of the castle. The castle doors swing open. As you step out from the inside darkness (slightly glowing in a Cinderella style dress) to the outdoors, "Someday My Prince Will Come" begins to play. The crowd goes "ahhhhhh" & you begin to walk across the front area. After the ceremony, the fairy coach & horse is there to pick you up as you ride off waving (to the music of "When You Wish Upon a Star").

Yes, I have been to Disney one too many times. :teehee:

 Well, my DH and I WISHED we'd eloped...

Funny thing was that things were SO bad with all the parents and family issues that we made TWO sets of "plans"...the small chapel wedding and an elopement up to the mountains to be married outdoors with just 4 other people attending wedding.

At the last minute, we went for the chapel wedding. The wedding itself was loffly and rather small and the chapel was very old and quaint. But the reception was totally craptastic due to the family garbage...we were never so happy to get out of anyplace as that reception! :psycho:

And, then we had FUN! Spent our wedding night at The Biltmore in Phoenix and drove to DISNEYLAND for our honeymoon! HAD A DERN BALL!!!! :cheer:

So, mostly it was ok, but we STILL talk about how nifty it would have been to drive up to the mountains and be married outdoors in an elopement ceremony...sighhhhhhhhhhh.

We kind of found a middle ground for our wedding. I REALLY didn't want a wedding, but it's my only marriage and my parents would have never recovered from not seeing their baby girl (who was 39 at the time :innocent: ) get married.

We got married on a Friday afternoon at the Druid Hills Club (on April 7, so Mother Nature provided all the decorations) out on a patio with 25 members of our families and closest friends. We did not spend a fortune and it made a very nice, elegant, intimate memory. We had a friend officiate who knew us both and it was very low key and US. I was glad I made it an "occasion" but kept it on my terms.

I swear to Tom that as an older, accomplished, professional woman getting married is, to date, the only experience in my life that made me profoundly uncomfortable with all the expectations. In hindsight, I'm really glad I didn't totally minimize the sense of occasion despite how uncomfortable I was. It IS a big deal, that getting married! <3

Well I hate Vegas more than any place on earth, so no, didn't get married there. Won't even spend a penny there.

Kali, you crack me up. The day you have something nice to say, I'm going to come take your temperature!

Instead, we have decided to do a cruise to Bermuda and have our wedding in Bermuda with just immediate family and close friends.

And after Rolex, I will count as a close friend!

I've always said that I want to elope to Vegas and get married by Elvis. The SO thinks I'm kidding, but I'm really not...okay, maybe about the Elvis part, but I figure if we're going to go to Vegas, we might as well go all the way and embrace the tacky :)

Thanks for all y'all's responses. I have some questions and replies for some of them, but right now I'm embroiled in family drama and trying desperately not to panic about leaving for the horseshow first thing in the morning while I try to remember what I need to take with me since I haven't shown in years. I am losing my mind and I'm a nervous wreck. Oh, and I really need to set a wedding date by tomorrow if we are doing this in May and want any of our friends to be there.

Wish me luck- I'll check back in after the weekend :psycho:

Good luck Tarragon! On both fronts - horse show and setting the Big Date

If you have a second to pick up some Rescue Remedy, it's awesome to take the jitters off so that you can actually ride. what tests will you be doing? Rated show or just for fun (ha!).

Either way, Good luck :luck: :luck:

I feel like such an oddball after reading all the responses!

We had the ceremony and reception in a mansion on the bank of the Hudson in Westchester, NY. It was, in my totally biased opinion, perfect. It was elegant without being stuffy, beautiful but not overdone. We got married in the winter, and had an evening ceremony by candlelight, filled the whole place with white roses, orchids and ivy. And my dress...don't even get me started on my dress....

Food, wine, music, family, friends, love, and the world's greatest wedding planner...what more could a girl ask for????
