We're seriously considering running off to Las Vegas to get married. I honestly can't seem to come up with anything else that seems to work. I just don't like the big wedding idea, it's just not "us". We've lived together for 6 years, we're not dewy-eyed kids and I just can't see spending all that money. We've thought about just going to the courthouse, but I think I'd like my wedding to be slightly more of an occasion that say, renewing my car tag or paying the property taxes. So, did any of you run off to Vegas (or anywhere else)? Do you regret eloping, or if you had a big wedding do you wish you'd just run off somewhere? Tell me about your weddings... |

My first wedding was a big to-do. My wedding to Mr. Fishy was a surprise. We had both been married before and didn't want another "wedding". We planned an engagement party, invited all our friends (not our parents' friends!), and had a mexican fiesta at my parents' house. The person who performed the ceremony was our mutual friend (and my farrier!) who introduced us - she got ordained for the day. Only she and her husband knew the deal. My parents didn't know, my brother didn't know, none of our friends knew. It was awesome!!! |

I am getting married there on June 2nd. We are having somewhat of a typical wedding but not quite. We invited 130 people and are having a reception afterwards. Most of my family is on the east coast, his family is in WA and AZ, and we live in So Cal. We decided on vegas because almost everyone had to travel anyway so we decided there is something for everyone in vegas. There are some people who can't afford it or can't travel but we had to make it fair for everyone. We also told them that its ok we understand their circumstances and its not a big deal if they can't come. We decided that we didn't want a "typical" wedding so we are getting married on the pirate ship at Treasure Island. Everything is somewhat pirate themed. lol Its not super dorky though. We are heading over next week to finalize everything and i am so excited. Vegas has a lot of different locations that you can get married and big or small anything can be done (the top of the effiel(sp?) tower, on a gondola, lake front at the bellagio, in a garden at Caesars, and many many more) . I found that most ceremony packages were not bad price wise either. I |

Not Vegas, but we eloped 28 years ago, and never regretted it for a second. Just had hubbys Minister marry us one night when our good friends were free to act as witness. Spent our Honeymoon staining wood in our under construction house  A couple of months later we went on our dream across country trip as a delayed Honeymoon.

We went to Sanibel Island in FL for many reasons - one of which was the pressure for me to choose another maid of honor after my best friend passed away suddenly. Sanibel was AWESOME. Warmth in sun, relaxation. The Island has a quiet pace. We biked. We ate. It was very romantic. And the pressure was totally off. Then we had a big old party later to celebrate. I got to wear my dress 4 times!!!! So while not a Vegas wedding I think going to a destination wedding is the best! |

My favorite wedding that I have ever been to was at the Venetian in Vegas. One of my best friends had all of us fly to Vegas for her nuptials and a couple of days of partying before hand! FUN FUN FUN!! If I had to do it all over again I would do it in Vegas or on an Island somewhere. |

If Vegas doesn't work, just pick somewhere that's special or appeals to both of you T, and do it!!!
We got married at our family farm. Germans flew in and did all the decorating and flowers, we hung lights in the big pole barn, had a caterer for some great eats, kept it casual and had a GREAT time. It worked for us and we had a fabulous time. Make it fun and do it YOUR way!!!

I tried to talk DH into either eloping or spending only a quick few minutes at the court house, but I couldn't sell him on the idea  What we did instead was rent a big tent, set up at my mother's small farm, along with some tables and chairs. Had a caterer, but it wasn't anything fancy, just good burgers and brats and fixings. We kind of needed a new stock tank anyhow, so we bought one and filled it with ice for the beer and soda. It was the end of August, so for flowers, we went to a garden center and bought a bunch of potted mums, which were all marked half off. A bunch of people who were coming had kids, so we spread white paper over all the tables and put out crayons, which everyone seemed to have fun with. So anyhow, although it was a somewhat large gathering, it was relatively inexpensive as far as weddings go, and had more of a backyard barbeque sort of feel. A cousin of mine also did the destination wedding on a beach somewhere, and had a great time. |

Well I hate Vegas more than any place on earth, so no, didn't get married there. Won't even spend a penny there. WE did plan our wedding in a few weeks. Rented a boat and cruised around the SF Bay for a few hours. It was all inclusive, simple, fun, quick and easy. The captain, ceremony, food, full bar, everything with one check then it was done. I knew I would be a mess and not that into the whole ceremony thing so I wanted to do something easy that everyone would enjoy. It was a gorgeous day and everyone's kids were invited and they had a blast too. |

If you want the shotgun wedding but aren't in love with Vegas, there's lots of other lovely places in the nation where you can get a shotgun wedding in a beautiful setting. This site has a nice overview of some alternatives: http://www.tangomag.com/2006172/the-10-bes...of-vegas.html/1 DH and I got married at a courthouse, but we were permitted up to 10 friends and family, so we brought 10 people. We had a great time, nobody felt obliged to dress up (although I dressed up, as did the groom), and we went to lunch afterward--where I got food poisoning from an undercooked quiche. Nothing will test a marriage like spending the first day of newlywed bliss in the emergency room! In retrospect it's all kind of hilarious, but at the time we weren't amused. It's been a little over two years and we've never regretted doing the courthouse thing. Every time we go to a friend's wedding, we look at each other and say, "Thank goodness we didn't do all this!" My father was over the moon that he didn't have to spend the cash on our wedding and I was delighted that he didn't have to spend it--our wedding gift was that he paid off one of our cars, which was STILL a whole lot cheaper than paying for a big wedding! |

I have thought about it a bunch of times, as I am not much of a planner and hate the idea of spending a small fortune on one day, but i think i would get disowned if I mentioned the idea seriously. it looks like a lot of fun, but then again, I would also totally get married at Disney World (but again would probably get disowned)! Instead, we have decided to do a cruise to Bermuda and have our wedding in Bermuda with just immediate family and close friends. After months of deliberation between traditional at-home wedding and destination wedding, i am REALLY happy this decision! It is going to be a wedding/vacation/honeymoon in one, and then we will throw a party when we get back to celebrate with those we love but who couldn't be there. |

I am so glad I am not the only one with a mishap. I wore this stupid girdle thing, and had an anxiety attack and couldn't breathe then started getting seasick. I could not eat or drink a thing almost the whole time. I knew I would hate a wedding, I actually HATE being the center of attention or feeling obligated to make other people be happy or have a good time. I got off the boat and we went to Chevy's and I ate and drank like crazy, then spent the rest of the day and night in my wedding dress totally trashing it, going to some dive bar, then up to the Claremont. The wedding was the worst part, I was so glad it was over! |

I just got married last fall, and we rented a tent and had it at my parents farm...I wouldn't change a thing, it was low key and hubby and I had a great time along with all our guests. I found the hardest part of wedding planning was deciding where we were going to have it, once we did that it seemed pretty easy...WE had thought about going off some where, but looking back I'm glad we didn't....you guys just have to make the right choice for you!! Don't let others try to sway you one way or another!! I'm more than happy to post pics of mine if you want!!
