So I am selling my horse because I am moving for college next year. I started listing her on a few webistes to see if anyone was interested. They day after I listed her I got an email from a man who wanted to buy her for his son's 25th birthday. Cool! So I started talking to him about it. He told me he used to live in FL (thats where I am), but he moved to Washington to "get a chnage of scenery". As I keep emaling him, he starts to give me a bad impression. He tells me he is leaving this week for the UK, and he wont be able to get back to me about my horse for two weeks. I understand. Then he tells me he just bought a horse and it "terrilbe disease after i spent lots of money on it. thats why i contacted you cause i know yours would be unique...". I just thought that was weird but whatever. I am selling her for $35k, since the horse market has been down. He offers me $38k - "so that you can take good care of it for me while am gone, buy more feeding for the horse and also use the rest money incase of any other expenses for the horse cause i want it to look cute." I'm sorry but that was weird. My parents and I agreed to give him my mothers office address (she works for a lawyer), just in case. I emailed him the address last night, and if I get the money - then whatever. I get an email back today which is totally crazy. This is the email from him: "Hello, I want you to know I got your email and I am really glad to recieve it from you again. Anyway I am heading to Birmingham, UK now. I have a contract there like I told you in the prior email, i have to go get it done cause this has been my dream contract all long and I have been praying towards it. I dont know if i would have a way to check mails there cause i would be very busy and wount be taking my laptop along, wount be back until 2 weeks but we will talk more when am back. Like i said I will be making the payment of $38,000 for the boat through check like promised cause i really want you to get it securedly. I already contacted my Bank Manager in regards of the check and I already forwarded your infomations to her. Please email Nissa on her email which is ________@aol.com as soon as she hears from you ,you will get the check like i promised so email her. I have to go now and as soon as am coming back from the UK i will come visiting you and would contact you with my flight information so that you can come pick me up at the airport, then we can discuss on how to ship the boat. Dont forget to email my bank manager please. Have a good day" He is calling the horse a "boat" and not one time but twice. I really think I am being scammed, what does everyone think. I am not going to allow this guy to mess with people. |

Thats what I also think, but I just thought a scammer wouldnt ask so many questions and give me so much info out about himself. He also told me that when he comes back from UK, he will be coming to see the horse. He told me he will forward his flight info. That kinda scares me.... |

Yup, it's a classic scam... Unfortunately, the Busted Up Cowgirl site no longer seems to be active, but here's some info. from another site: http://www.ruralheritage.com/sale_barn/scam02.htm |

That's how they lure you in - by giving you so much info you "feel like you know them" and have some sort of bond. That way, you will supposedly hand over your bank account info.

I use the same tactic. I strike up conversations with strangers in the grocery store and after 15 minutes or so, have all of their bank info. Wahahaha! I'm glad you said something before you feel into his evil trap! |

I had some fun with a scammer a while back. The only thing is that he has your real info so it may not be a good idea. My person only had my webmail account. I sent them to pick up my saddle in rural Saskatchewan. At an RCMP outpost. From my boyfriend Dudley.
