Now what?

Do I plug in my printer on it? What if I want the printer plugged in to the Apple Time Machine AND my desk top (not an Apple)?

What if we don't have wireless internet at home now but I add it later - do I just plug that in too??

Thank you!

LOL - it's an automatic back-up mechanism for Apples

To the OP - I have NO idea. With Apple you can usually just plug it all in and let it figure things out for itself. Unlike my (*@&#^ PC Laptop that has bluescreened twice on me today. :psycho:

I will ask Mr. At Last, as he is an imac expert and I am sure he will be able to tell you more than you want to know. The other night I fell asleep while he was telling me about the guts of our computer... fascinating. LOL! :P

You can't "buy" Time Machine. Time Machine is a program that's built into the operating system called Mac OS X Leopard. I heart Time Machine, which has saved me several times already with files that I deleted.

However, you may have purchased an overpriced (but effective) product at Apple called the Time Capsule, and based on what you're saying about it, whomever sold it to you did not explain what it is.

Read this web site. It is both a hard drive and a wireless Airport Extreme Base Station, meaning that you've just bought yourself a wireless network hub. If you have high-speed internet, you should be able to plug an ethernet cable into the Time Capsule and get a wireless network going in no time. If you really want to plug a printer into it, you could do that too, but why not just get your printer onto your new wireless network so that you can print wirelessly and not fumble with the cable anymore?

Here is Mr. At Last;

Hi. When you say you got a Time Machine, do you mean a Time Capsule? Time Machine is just the software application that comes with Mac Leopard. The Time Machine application works in conjunction with an external hard drive and automatically sends periodic backups to your external drive.

A Time Capsule is also an external drive, but you do not have to plug it in to your computer. As long as you have a wireless network (usually based on a wireless router), any Macs you have running Leopard will wirelessly be backed up to the Time Capsule.

Hope this helps!!!

Oops yes it is a time Capsule for time machine. *blush*

Yes, its the automatic backup for Macs - so if my MacBook is stolen or lost or explodes i have a back up at home - no more lost pics, documents, etc.

Once you set it up and it copies your stuff it updates every time the Apple Laptop opens.

Yes, I have the Leopard OS. :cheer:

I love this idea, but want to start it out correctly. :cloud9:

So then, if right now I don't have cable internet (I have darned old dial up still  ) can I add that later????
