Can I hear from women over 40 with blue eyes - how long did your healing take? Do you have any permanent changes you ARE NOT happy with? How long till you healed? How has it affected your horse life? Thanks. Reading this stuff is scaring the crap out of me. |

Are you talking Lasix? If so, I will continue I had it done when I was 50 and I have very blue eyes. Healing time was about a week because the antibiotics drops clouded my eyes a bit. I did have a real problem with dry eye afterwards ( but I had it anyway but didn't know) I spent a couple of years fighting dry eye and last Spring had plugs put in my tear ducts which pretty much fixed that. Also I live in AZ so dry eye is quite common. Dry eye is also quite common after menopause As to halos and starbursts I have always had that and noticed no difference. Having blue eyes I have always had a problem with glare and buy really good sunglasses. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again as I was not about to try and ride in bifocals I need readers now for computer work and reading What are you reading that scares the crap out of you? My recommendation is use the very best dr that you can find |

DQ, I'm thinking you are doing Lasix surgery? IF YOU ARE, please, please have them check the thickness of your Cornea, if they haven't yet. I went thru the entire workup years ago, when I was about 40, and yes I have blue eyes. The last test (the workup was quite comprehensive at Geisinger) was the cornea thickness test. I could have CRIED when they said I couldn't have the surgery because my cornea was not thick enough. But the eye surgeon told me if I had it done, it was a very very good chance it would have gone wrong. Only so much to work with, and if they made the slightest mistake, well, I wasn't willing to take that chance. I had the money in my checking account, and they had already given me an appt for the surgery. Thank Goodness I went to the great hospital, instead of the eye clinic where you are in and out in an hour. The workup alone at Geisinger took two hours. The surgeon told me, in his opinion Blue eyed people often have thinner corneas. Which may be why I'm so sensitive to light. |

LD - they did that check, my thickness is very good I was told. My workup was almost 4 hours long. Tears check, thickness, measurements, dialation (24 hours to go to normal!). They give me a 90% chance of 20/20 vision. Dues - I am reading the stuff I have to sign that sez accidents can happen, one small slip and blind, OR not 20/20 OR no changes OR infection OR dry eye OR loss of vision.....
Thats freaking me right now. And umm, its spelled L-A-S-I-K in my paper work Exactly: Intra lase Flap Custom Vue Visx Lasik Surgery for Nearsightedness I'm just very worried. Okay, I'm a chicken!! BAWWWK!!!! |

Blue eyes here. Over 40 when I had Lasik done. NO problems. Blue eyed male friend's husband went with me and he did have dry eyes and they were worse after the surgery. It took no time to heal. I had to sleep with the eye cups on for a week, they were annoying. The very next day I could see, the day after that no Pod people sun glasses. Even the clinic workups take two hours. They always check the thickness of your cornea. They will not do it if it is too thin. Drs are still performing the surgery. I didn't have mine done at a hospital I went to Canada and had it done both eyes for under $1K. That was when it was over $4k here. Nine years ago. ETA: SPELLED FREAKING LASIK CORRECTLY. Oy.

That's how much my surgery (which is the 17th for the first eye ) is going to be. I'm going through Care Credit, which has a 2yr., no interest plan right now.I'm not over 40, and don't have blue eyes though, so I can't give you much insight on your questions. I do know that reading everything online can and WILL freak you out if you listen to alot of it. Which is why I've decided NOT to read up on it much, and go by my Dr.'s awesome reputation and knowledge. If I sat here and read all the stuff online about PRK, I'd probably have a panic attack and back out, because most people post when they've had bad experiences, not good ones. I do know however, that they can't guarentee you'll have 20/20 after the surgery. Anyone that does is probably not the best Dr. to go see. They had me watch a 20min. video on Lasik/PRK, and that was one of the questions on it. |

I misspelled..sorry I had the Intralase as well only I had astigmatism. For liability reasons, they have to tell you every possibility. My consent form was like 8 pages long if I remember correctly. I paid $3200 for both eyes and went with an outfit that had done thousands of them and was highly rated. Btw, they should offer you Valium the morning that you show up....TAKE IT! I found it all fascinating and the procedure took less than ten minutes. That was with them cutting the flaps in one room and moving me elsewhere for the rest. They play up the noise and discomfort but I have to say that there really wasn't any. Then again I just breezed through fusion surgery two months ago so it may just be me It's ok to be a bit apprehensive but if you have any serious doubts, don't do it. I had forgotten about the goggles until the other day when I came across them. I did use the gel for my eyes for a long time |

I did take the valium. I also asked for my right eyeball to be numbed the next day. It was bugging me. They both healed fine. I don't think I ever had 20/20 but 20/30 is fine. My procedure was done in the same room. Flaps done, laser, flap back, second eye, flap done, laser, flap back. Done. Go sit in a chair. Here are your instructions, your Pod People sunglasses, come back in the AM for a re-check. Drive home from Canada. |
