I went outside to do poo chores and feed the horses at 4:30. Mr. Fishy and I talked about going for a walk at 5. I've been waiting for a call from the farrier all day. I hear the phone ring at just about 5 and hope it is the farrier. I come to the house after chores, around 5:15, and Mr. Fishy is nowhere to be found; recent call record on the phone shows that it was the farrier who called. I want to know if Mr. Fishy talked to him and if they set a time. But I can't find Mr. Fishy. He's gone. Gone. Just gone. He's not in the house. He's not in the hot tub. He's not outside the house. He's not in the pasture. He's not at the neighbor's house. He's just gone. WTF!??!!! I'm so mad and annoyed because I think it is rude and inconsiderate to just disappear!!! There's no note. He doesn't have his cell phone on him. Where did he go?!

Hmpf. He went for a run. He thought he told me he was going to run at 5 and we'd walk later. That was not my understanding. I had to give him the finger wag and tell him not to do it again and to leave me a note so I know where he went. fingerwagfingerwagfingerwagfingerwagfingerwag

Old trainer of mine had a similar problem. Her boyfriend would go on two day crack binges. Out to pick up dinner, come back 2 or 3 days later with dinner on the backseat from when he went out. I'm glad your hubby was just out running! |

OMG! Nope, Mr. Fishy isn't a crackhead for sure! He thought he told me he was going for a run. I thought we were going to depart together at 5 ish. A misunderstanding on both our parts. I tend to be paranoid, though - you wouldn't believe the thoughts that went through my head. Alien abduction wouldn't be too far off!

FIshy, I do understand! When they drop into that ol' black hole, it can make ya nervous! Aliens indeed! In the first several years of marriage, Mr. 3Bays would tend to just leave and go spend HOURS in hardware and electronics stores. This was pre-cell phone days, too...so, suddenly, he was gone and gone for HOURS. Well, after about a year of this, I just told him...LOOK, all I care is that I know you're leaving, and approximately when you think you'll be home...otherwise, go have FUN. I told him it was because I was concerned that he was OK, not that I was monitoring him or wishing in ANY way to "control" him. When I asked him how he'd feel if I just disappeared and was incommunicado, he just dropped his jaw and said, "Wow, I'd be frantic after a while that you were in a crash or your car was dead on some horrid, isolated road...or whatever." Suddenly, he saw what it was like from my side. (I had always told him when I was leaving, etc). So, from that point on, we BOTH make sure we at least announce to the other, "hey, I'm going out for a bit...should be X number of hours. If it's gonna be later than that, I'll call ya...byeeee"...that way, we KNOW. And, yeah, misunderstandings DO take place! We all get busy, think we've told the other person what's up and have cross-fires. S'life. But, on the main, I think it's just being kind to at least give a heads up that your mate's gonna be gone a while. |

Ha, I was right. Eric, the BF of over 3yrs., knows better than to just 'disappear' on me. I'm a CONSTANT worrier, and have anxiety/panic because of that (and other things ), and he knows this. If he doesn't answer his phone, and I know he's out or something, I start the 'Oh god, what if he got in a wreck?' crap. I hate it! |

Kady, I am totally the same way!!! The other night I was out in the pasture feeding the horses and cleaning manure. I heard the phone ring. (Mr. Fishy was traveling for work.) I let it go and then it rang again 5 minutes later. I let it go and it rang again. My first thought was "somebody's dead - please don't let it be Mr. Fishy." When I went in the house and checked my calls, one was a telemarketer. Two were from Mr. Fishy. He has a new phone and he's been ass-dialing me by mistake. So yesterday when I couldn't find him I noticed that the cats were on the upstairs hall/walkway (which I can see from the couch). One cat is scratching at the guest room door. My immediate thought was "Mr. Fishy was kidnapped and is being held at gunpoint upstairs." Paranoid much?! I should know better than to let my crazy thoughts get the best of me. Sometimes I just can't help myself! 3Bays, same thing for Mr. Fishy. He can go where he wants when he wants. He goes out to play hockey with his friends a few days a week. I have no problem with him having any kind of freedom he likes. I just want to know when he's leaving and when I can expect him to return so I can know when I have to start worrying! Well, we're off to take him and his horse on their first XC schooling - wish us luck! |

<_< Well, I've gotten better over the years...but then, in my own case, I know why I'm always a bit nutter and paranoid. My first husband was killed in Vietnam and I was very young at the time and it just rather scarred me in relation to the "you never know, it could happen today" kind of thinking/feelings you get when someone's gone without notice or very late returning home. I did eventually get some counseling for it cuz I was just SO skeeeerrred to anyone go anyplace for fear they'd never come back! OBVIOUSLY this isn't a rational thought process! 99.999% of the time they DO come back! But, wow...I just still have that twinge! So, I'm glad the DH is nice enough to usually humor me and calls. Of course, on the few times he doesn't (or the cell battery goes down!) I get nervous. But, it's just somethin' to live with. I am unsure if I'll ever be without some of that "uh oh..." feeling.
