So there have been a couple threads lately that have made me think more about yoga and pilates. I go to the gym and work out, but I lack the flexibility I would like. There are classes around here, but they are at bad times of the day for me, too far a way, or too costly. I COULD make them work, but I would really rather try a good DVD first. When I was better equipped for a class, then I could go to one, but I think some at home work would be pretty darn productive.

So, which ones do you like? And why? I have a couple friends who do DVDs and like them, but I have never used a workout DVD so I know nothing about them! Tell me the good, the bad, and the ugly... What should I try, what should I stay away from? I'm torn between yoga and pilates, though a good pilates one could probably take the place of a couple gym trips a week!

honestly most pilates videos should be relatively similar, because they are all based on the same poses etc. The Winsor Pilates series is fine, definitely shows you the basics, then you can move onto something more advanced if you like...

Darn, had a whole response typed up and lost it!

OK.....long story short I was given a recommendation for the Pilates DVDs by Crunch Gym and they were pretty good. Some of the other ones (in fact, I think I had a Winsor one when I bought a mat) are kind of boring and/or make it look SO easy and make you feel like a loser! So the Crunch Gym ones aren't bad, although they are definitely not "classic" pilates going through all the exercises in order.

My instructor has a CD but not a DVD yet....but when she does I'll let everyone know. I think I might buy her CD soon since I really, really need at least one more pilates workout each week, if not more. Honestly, if I did it every day I could kick some butt!

When I get it I'll give you all a review.....one nice thing about a CD v. a DVD is you don't have to try to watch the screen and workout...of course that assumes you know what to do and I'm not sure if it gives good instruction if you don't take her classes. But here's her website:

I have 10 minute solutions Pilates and I love it. I see results fairly quickly in my legs.

The one thing that old age has done to me is stolen my flexibility.
ITs terrible. Especially my legs. I tried a Yoga show called just breathe on a cable channel, may be its WE. Torture, pure torture, that shit is for the young. It was a guy who was leading it. Most of the people were in there 20s and could contort into pretzels. That shit is evil and the body was never meant to go into those positions. Sad thing is in my 20s and 30s I would have been able to do most of those positions! :sigh: :pissed:
