I just had a conversation with my feed rep, who brings feed here from 2 hours away. They need someone in my immediate area to sell feed by the bag. I had considered doing this years ago with another company, but it was not enough of a profit, the way they had it set up. This feed company today does not limit you on what you can charge. When you go for feed, what else are you looking for? I'd be happy to just sell feed, and nothing else, as there is a tack store & hardware store two miles from me that covers all other equestrian needs, plus gardening needs. The local Amish have several greenhouses that sell bedding plants, etc. I don't want to put up another big building. My hours would be limited by necessity to two days a week (probably Friday and Saturday, they bring feed Thursday) There would not be delivery, pickup only. What else would you want to see when you pick up your feed? TIA |

Usually when we go to pick up feed, we always end up getting something else; hoof polish, brushes, halter, showsheen. Not that I really went to get it, but its there and I pick it up. |

You know you're a redneck when...you buy your clothes at the feed store! I bought a cute vest there a couple weeks ago! Anyways, I've gone to feed stores that were the bare bones minimum - hay, feed, and just some supplements and basic necessities - and feed stores like my current one which has clothes, gardening equipment, Breyer horses, chicks for sale, halters, bridles, saddle pads, blankets, fence repair stuff, shelter supplies, etc. I do like the feed store that has the bigger selection, but I do pay for it - they charge more! At least you should have horse cookies - no one can resist the impulse buy of horse cookies!

Pet food, and "the necessities" for the barn - fly spray, vet wrap, betadine, first aid supplies etc. |
