I'm just wondering if I'm the only insanely inflexible person in here? I can't figure out if I'm SO inflexible because I ride, or because I am just plain old unfit. If I sit down, I can't reach half way down my shins without being in pain. Touching my toes is TOTALLY out of the question!! I mean, I am pretty young and did dance and gymnastics and all that jazz when I was younger, but now I just feel pathetic. When I went to my moms personal trainer, she said I was the 2nd most inflexible person she'd worked with (after my mother of course! ) and was amazed at how tight my hamstrings and hip flexors were. I would really love to be more flexible and am sure it would help me in the saddle. So can you touch your toes? Someone make me feel better, please! |

I can, but only if I bend my knees a little, and it KILLS.
Of course, I am constantly bending down to attend to or pick up my 15 month old, so my legs are pretty flexible I think. |

Absolutely, I can touch my toes. Lying in bed in a fetal position
Seriously. I can, but just. My nearly 4-decades-old mom can put her hands flat on the floor. I hate her

I can touch my toes but I'm not generally very flexible. I can't just stand up and do it, though. I need to bend over at the waist and hang for a little bit and gradually stretch out until I can touch my toes. Daily stretching and yoga helps...if only I did it daily!

I can! I've always been kind of flexible though. Maybe I just have short legs and long arms??

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I can rest my entire palms on the floor with straight legs, and can reach PAST my toes in a sitting position. Get thee to YOGA young lady!

I can on the side with my good hip, but I get so embarrassed that I can't tie my field boot laces on the side with my bad hip. One of the show moms (who is probably my age) does it for me. She does not seem to mind, but I hate asking for things like that. I am not flexible at all, never have been, but I have always been able to touch my toes. |

Ohhhh man I suck. If there were any good Yoga studio's around here, that didn't cost an arm and a leg, I'd love to go. CLEARLY I need it!! And for the record, no, I can't do a cart wheel either. |

Yes I can, and I completely agree with the yoga suggestion. But everyone is flexible in different ways. I can put my palms flat on the floor with legs straight, and for the yoga students I can do a downward dog with my feet flat on the floor as well. But I can barely sit crosslegged, and a lotus position is something I only see in my dreams. Maybe someday. Yoga and/or pilates (or a yoga-pilates fusion) is great for flexibility. I am really trying to get more flexibility in my hip joints with the specific goal of deepening my seat for riding. Who knows.....but worth trying, right? My pilates/yoga instructor always says "push the edge of sweet discomfort." Maybe more discomfort than sweet in my case....but I do try to push it. You have to start somewhere! Oh, and I can do a cartwheel, but I've gained a lot more confidence in this by teaching my kids! |

I am the exact opposite. I can't touch my toes to save my life- hell, I can barely touch my knees- but I can sit crosslegged or in the lotus position all day long-- especially while sitting in a chair, thats usually when I get the weird comments.

Thanks guys, now I am feeling really pathetic!! I started researching Yoga. Is $168 for 12 weeks at a Yoga studio for 'beginner yoga' a good deal? |
