Hey Indy thanks so much! I pray that I can make it to Rolex but it seems silly to even hope! I forget if you were the one who did not like the boot? I have had it on all day today. When the hospital put in on I got relief from the pain when I put weight on it. That is no longer the case. I am trying to use 1 crutch and limit my movement but it hurts to put weight on it! Last night was tough as I was in pain and could not take more Motrin because of no food! At 1:15 I was wide awake but did not have it in me to get up and trudge to the kitchen for some food. I slept without the brace so I would have had to put it on or risk a spill with the crutches. 5 feet outside my room is a flight of stairs and I fear I will fall down them. Tonight I wil keep some crackers by my bed at least so I can take a pill. Stupid me told the Doc I did not need anything stronger but in retrospect I do! Hopefully Mr. G will be home soon to sooth me! He told me I should have woken him up last night but I just couldn't! Guess I would rather lay there in tears! Thanks again you guys! I feel so alone and need any connections I can find! The tears come and go but I am trying to be brave!

Yup, I was the one that hated the boot. I had soft tissue damage from getting stepped on and the boot put pressure on the top of my foot where it was most sore and I was miserable wearing it. I did a lot of scootching up and down stairs on my butt or hands & knees. I can do crutches on level ground, but stairs were too complicated...also there was lots of hopping around from one piece of furniture to another. |

How's it going Gunnar? Any relief from the pain? Are you going to have to go back in to see the doc?And wake Mr Gunnar up when you need him, for crying out loud. I hate the idea of you lying there crying and needing stuff. And if I can't come and help, then wake that man up. Or I will have to call him. Look after yourself ...and yes, even if it means asking for help,k?

Oh man gunnar I am so sorry to hear about the broken foot, and the residual pain you are dealing with. You are a trooper to have hopped back on, and that courage will no doubt be there when its time to get back in the saddle after your healing time. I was in "the boot" for awhile in college and found I was able to get around without crutches in about 3-4 weeks time. I suppose it depends on what kind of break, but don't worry there is light at the end of the tunnel! Hmm how bout some cold hosing, poultice and a standing wrap? J/k. Hugs to you, we're here for ya! |

Hang in there Gunnar! We're all pulling for you. As I recall from my different breaks over the years, the first week is the worst and then you start feeling better pretty quickly. Don't write off Rolex yet! You'll have a whole host of folks to wait on you hand and foot!

Steph, unfortunately this is an area I have way too much experience in. I've broken each of my feet, one of them twice!! You will be back to normal things a lot quicker than you think, however I always experienced a lingering arthritic type of pain (not an accute OMG I can't do anything type of pain) for a long while afterwards. Your doctor wijll tell you not to listen to me as I am the worlds' worst patient. I give up on the boot fast, like after the first week, and I ride without stirrups and make sure I dismount and only land on one foot. So act like you have some sense and don't do anything stupid like me.

Ouch Gunnar! I'm sorry to hear about your foot. I hope it gets better quickly. The first week or two is usually the worst....

Oh you guys I am not doing well! I called for my Podiatry appoinment this AM! They said I was to be scheduled for an appoinment in 3 weeks! They sent me back to Minor Inury Clinic where they told me I should not have been puttng any wieght at all on that leg. They took away my boot and put me in a soft cast that is hard on the back and supposedly soft everywhere else. I am not to put any weight on that leg. My foot feels better but I am totally crippled without being able to rest a little wieght on that leg. I am not good on crutches so it is so hard. I tried to take the two steps into my house and had to get on my hands and knees. Then I couldn't get up. I am not a spring chicken and I was afraid I was going to fall backwards on those steps. I am having such a hard time with this. I cannot stop crying right now and Mr. G is sick of me already. Now that I have to use two cructhes for every step I take I am totally helpless. At least before I could get a cup of coffe at 3:00 AM if need be. I always wake up super early and need coffe and then food shortly after that. Mr. G is trying his best but his tone of voice just kills me. He tells me I am making too big of a deal of it all but I cannot undo my extreme emotions. I appreciate all he has done for me and really hate to rely on him. He and I have a little trouble getting along when things aren't going so well. He is out walking now so I hobbled down the hall to talk to you guys. I did get some Vicodine but it does not help too much. I need to go to work so I have now ordered a Wheel Chair from Kaiser so at least I can get any crucial work done. My company changed their sick pay policy last year so instead of 3 weeks of sick pay they added a few more days to my PTO. Now who wants to give up that crucial PTO for something like this. Not me is all I can say! I have a new boss who works part time at an overtime job so she is not really a big part of the process. I have yet to talk to her as she went home earely (from her only 6 hours a day that she is there, she officially works 4 days a week from 9 to 3! ) and stated that she would not be there tomorrow. I am not sure how she gets away with it but she and my big boss are buddies. If I kept the hours she does I would be fired. Enough of my moaning and groaning about my job but I does not help with my current situation. So needless to say I am feeling oh so sorry for myself at this point. I need all the positive thoughts and jingles you guys can send. Thanks again for all your kind thoughts and mostly for listening to my sob stories. Just typing this has made me feel better.

Oh Gunnar, hang in! I know it hurts like h---, but hang in, it will get better. Here are more I know what you mean about having a boss who is only there part time, if that. I worked at a place where we had this one manager who if we saw her 15 hours a week it was a bleepin miracle. Just let anyone else try it though... Anway, hang in, it will get better. When I broke my ankle, it hurt for about three days then the pain backed off a good bit. Hopefully yours will to. |

Oh gunnar, At least the awful boot is gone. That's something. What about one of these leg scooter thingies like this? http://www.scooteron.com/ (I'm sure there are other brands, I just found this quick) I've seen people scooting around on them before and they look like a nifty alternative to crutches. You get to rest your bad leg on it and kind of push yourself around. Not much of a help when it comes to stairs, but it might make flat ground easier. You might be able to find someplace local to where you are that rents them.
