I have started feeding my dogs EVO Red Meat aftre hearing about it from a JRT breeder. http://www.evopet.com/products/default.asp?id=1491 The dogs love it, they are nice and fit and shiny, and their turds are much smaller and firmer!! The puppy was eating the Innova puppy food up until 6 months http://www.innovapet.com/products/default.asp?id=502 |

The big pet stores (PetsMart & Petco) don't sell most of the good foods. Royal Canin is one they (at least PetsMart does, we don't have a Petco, so I don't know) sell that is good quality. I think the AvoDerm they sell is pretty good too. Nutro is OK IMO; it's better than Iams, etc., but it's not the quality of Innova, Canidae, Calif. Natural, Merrick, etc. Anyway, I buy my 'fancy' food at Pet Supplies Plus. If you find a brand you want to know more about (say, Innova), you can go to their website and the majority of them have a 'Find a Dealer' spot where you can type your zip and find the closest pet store. And, some dogs can, and do just fine on the 'blah' brands. However, some don't do well on them, likes dogs with allergies, etc. I just can't bring myself to feed them anymore (I was a big Science Diet feeder) after really learning about what goes into my pets! I swear, my dogs/cats/rats/horses eat better than I do! Edited to add: Oh, and the quality of their coats once on a high quality food has been amazing! That and we're feeding half of what we used to when we fed Science Diet (used to be 4 cups a day, per dog, now it's 2 cups a day, per dog). It's amazing how much less food they can eat when it isn't full of fillers and crap. That's where the price difference evens out (for us anyway), we don't have to buy nearly as much food as often as we used to. |

My Boxer came to me as a pup on Nutro. She stayed on it for a few months until she started getting itchy feet. Then I switched to Chicken Soup. They started using different ingredients that didn't sit well with me (possible carcinogens) so I switched her to Innova. I think it was too rich for her. Now I rotate between Wellness and Solid Gold. She's spoiled! |

Innova EVO, reduced fat version now that he is nearing 7. That is the big dog. The Corgis are on prescription diets due to age and infirmities. I tried to manage them on EVO but it didn't work. I get mine at the feed store. They are slowly changing to upscale pet food store. I even get my Koi food there. Along with the horse's grain. |

My mom breeds German Sheperds and has been a Eukanuba Lamb and Rice fan for oh probably 25 yrs. I feel my lab Candidae Platium for seniors (and overweight dogs). She's got a great shiny coat and loves it
I buy it at my local pet store chain, Choice Pet Supply.

My lab gets the Eukaneuba Lab formula. It has made the biggest difference in her and I think she will probably be on it for the rest of her life. Her weight is amazing, as well as her coat and overall appearance. |

Ugh, dog food - it's been an issue recently. Sascha can't have canned food of any kind - it all gives her diarrhea. So I had her on Merrick's Turducken. She ate it alright - didn't scarf it up like some dogs do, so I thought we could do better. I figured she's a dog, what else does she have? She should adore her food. Switched her to Primal Raw Food - she LOVED it! She got chicken, venison, lamb...scarfed it all up in .2 seconds, and I was really happy with it. Digestion was great, poops were fine. then my vet scared the bejeebus out of me last week, with talk of Salmonella, e coli, and meat-borne parasites, which he says are often deadly. So now she's back on the Merrick. She'll eat it when she's hungry, it is human-grade and I don't have to live in fear of her getting sick. But I feel guilty now because she loved her raw food so much.

We feed our pit bull puppy royal canin puppy. Not my choice (I would have preferred Wellness puppy or innova so we can switch her to raw later) but it's not really "my" dog. She's doing alright but man, does she have puppy breath in the extreme. |

I too feed the Nutro brand foods. I use their Ultra (holistic) line. I love it too! I can not get over how much less my dogs shed, the considerably smaller poops (less waste). My senior Maxine is the worlds most finicky eater and she has not batted and eye since we switched her to the Ultra line a year and a half ago. There are a lot of good foods available. The best advice is feed the best food you can afford to feed. |

Archie Moore the boxer was on Nutro Lamb and Rice, but got itchy feet, itchy ears and goopy eyes. We had a RAST test done by the vet. It is a blood test that identifies their allergies. Low and behold he is allergic to wheat, barley, lamb, all poultry, white potatoes, and other things that I can't remember! Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a food that works for him?!? The vet suggested Science Diet ZD. I am not a Science Diet fan at all, but until I find something else that works for him that is what he is on. He still gets the occasional itchy feet, but is good otherwise. |

Thank you all for sounding in. I like the Nutro, but I was just wondering if there was anything "better" out there. I did some more label research, and I really like the Eagle Pack. Thankfully there's a few places close to me that carry it, so I will be switching her over s l o w l y and probably the Monkus too. CDE that's AWFUL!!! Poor YOU! Archie Moore is so lucky to have such wonderful humans!!!
