:pissed: :,( :pissed: Sigh. I knew the streak had to end. And I knew last week that I blew the A&P exam and only got about a 90 instead of my usual hundred. I was exhausted from studying for statistics, from shoveling, from not enough sleep several nights in a row, from too much caffeine the day before. Adrenaline-depleted so didn't have that extra edge I need to ace it.

But I really thought I aced the statistics. I lost 3 points honestly to a type of problem that I always struggle with. But I lost a buncha points on the easy questions to just plain idiocy...or blindiness.

:shoot: 1 point lost to a series of #s, in which a 10 was hiding. I *know* that 10 is smaller than 11. But that effing 10 was hiding from me, and messed up my entire frequency table and histogram. :mallet: nasty old 10.

:shoot: Then I lost 3 points to a mistake I've made at least a zillion times. I made it 3 times that morning, and thought, that's ok, better to make the mistake in rehearsal cuz then I won't make it an hour later. Hah! Forgot, yet another time, to put the pile o'numbers in order *before* I figger out the median. Arghhhh. :mallet: I hate when they just give ya a big buncha numbers.

:shoot: Then I lost 4 points to the flippin' data entry error. I still haven't figgered out what # I must've put in wrong. But my sum of (xsquared) was off by 100+, which made the entire equation wrong. Tonight I did it 3 times in a row and got the right # each time. Go figger.

Then came the hard part of the test, and that part I aced. Go figger. Bottom line -- I'm in B+ territory. Hopefully the 2 hundred quizes bring the 89 test back into A territory. :luck:

Ok, sigh, I'm better now. Funny what a shot or 3 of harvey's bristol cream will do :innocent:

I was really just luvin' my hunderd-streak. Hate lettin' it go. Maybe lettin' it go will make room for something else good...or better...or more needed? :luck:

Like, I just got an email update from URock. There's yet another job fair, but unlike the last one that had the usual suspects that have already rejected me, this one focuses on services...including MLT! It's a week from Wednesday, so I just need to stay late after lab. :luck:

And summer school you can get financial aid for just 1 course instead of 2 -- so if I get waivers for algebra & chemistry, I can just take 1 course and work at a job. :luck: :luck:

And like I was just re-reading for the zillionth time the extra paper from admissions. The advisor never mentioned, and I never noticed, but they have a h.s. chemistry waiver exam. Seeing as I was getting hunderds all last fall, maybe I can pass that AND the algebra 2, and then have time for a job OR take some other required courses this summer so still get a jump on the degree. :luck:

No offense, mares, while doing well is GREAT grades really aren't the be-all-end-all. A B+ is a GOOD grade. Don't let yourself stress over the little things, I promise it really isn't worth it.

(Said by a vet student in the hardest quarter of the four years. I've quickly realized my grade on an individual exam has no reflection at all of how much I actually learned or what I will remember six months from now.)

We had a phrase in the engineering program. C's for degrees. I was stressed out over a test once and met with the prof. He was a good friend. I took the test worked out the problem. Stapled it together leaving one problem in my pad of paper. It took me from a high A to a low B. I told him what I did later and he asked why I didn't tell him when it happened. I told him that it was my mistake not his and I wasn't about to ask for a favor when it was an honest brain fart. He told me then that in general. A students go into research, B students work for C students.

So your best, purge memory, and start again. Best thing you can have as a student is the ability to move on when you blow it. LF

Wait a sec Sanny - statistics is a WEEDER course. You will rarely if ever use that crap again - its a class to weed out those who won't even try.

If you try you'll do fine, just as Maresy is.

Its the trying that counts.

And when the class is over - its over.

I haven't 'used' Diffy Q since college - another weeder course. I have used stats 2x since college - for, yep, research.

Dive in - give it a whirl. You'll suprize yourself in a GOOD way.

Oh, and if it helps imagine all the people, like your hubby, who say you CAN'T do it - great insentive to DO IT!!

And Maresy, you are doing GREAT. Allow yourself to relax your own standards - don't let school make you miss out on life.

My dad is a plummer and his favorite phrase is, "Shit Floats." It's so true. When you get into the workforce the shittiest people will be in the top positions. It stinks to lose that A average, but don't sweat it. It will all work out fine in the end.

Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, Maresy, lighten up on yourself! :cloud9:

You are doing college work at the Brainiac Level!!! :one: :rose: I know losing the "hundreds" streak feels rotten, but hey, you're doing FANTABULOUSLY!!! Don't get TOO aggrapplacagatededed! I predict you'll bounce right back and pull your A's real soon again and this will be a mere blip on the scholastic radar! YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY Maresy!!!!

When I was in law school (lo, those many mooooooons ago in the Pleistocene Era...), our law school Dean would come and give the 1L students occasional speeches...he was a hoot.

One time he decided that some of us were becoming overly hyper about the grades (although law school is famous for pressing for high grades generally)...I believe he was focusing on me a tad bit as I was the only female student in the school...

Anyhoo, here's what he said...(not far off of what LF said!)---

The A students become professors. And, the B students end up working for the C students.

And, you know what? Once I got out in the real world of law...it was rather true! Most of the time it was the B and C students who did the actual work, set up the lawfirms or were top stars in the Prosecutors offices, etc...and yeah, the A's often became professors! Who knew?

I'm not saying this to put your drive to excel down in ANY way...but the Dean was just trying to let us all know that if we bumped a B or even hit a C on the road to our JD's that it wasn't the end of the world...that we should just step back, get some rest, exhale and move on to the next challenge (or, if we'd really hit a brick wall, focus on what had made us stumble and try a new way to understand it).

It sounds to me from your description that you were rather tired and so that 10 was missing! Hey, stuff happens, girl...and you STILL got a terrific grade...so, relax, move on and enjoy the next phase of studies!

I am SO PROUD of you, Maresy!!! You are doing INCREDIBLY well...so, you just keep on keepin' on! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
