That's a couple of hours west of me, I think. It's been a while since I've trail ridden there, but it was a blast and I'd love to see it kept open for horses. Fibromyalgia makes it hard for me help out much with those projects, which is kind of a bummer

OOO Wayside - if we do head that way from MI we may need to stop in and say HI!! I dunno what the scoop is on the course other then this: EQUESTRIAN TRAIL BUILDING SCHOOL 2008 The Trails Committee of the Wisconsin State Horse Council is pleased to announce the 3rd annual Equestrian Trail Building School. Working together, we have engaged the services of Mike Riter of Trail Design Specialists to present his 4-day crew leader trails course to land managers and volunteers here in Wisconsin. Mike’s trail-building philosophy focuses on shared-use, rather than single-use trails. His trail designs are developed to minimize the effects of natural impacts (wind, water, and gravity) as well as user impacts. He offers quality training in the design, construction, and maintenance of a trail. This will be exciting and dynamic instruction as you spend the first part of your day in a classroom setting and the second part in hands-on training in the field. You will receive printed support materials, including a list of trail tools, and a certificate of completion at the end of the school. This is not teaching theories of good trails; you will be learning from an experienced trail builder and you will be building and improving actual trails with the opportunity to use the right tools for the job. Our school is being held at the La Riviere Park near Prairie du Chien. Morning and noon meals are being provided, along with beverages and snacks. Lodging is available nearby for those who need it. Evening meals are on your own; however, we will provide a list of places where we can eat together, if you choose. And of course the Cabela’s store is only a few miles away Financial support has been provided by the Wisconsin State Horse Council. We appreciate their commitment to building better trails in Wisconsin for trail riders. Fill out your registration form today and send it to Dan. Deadline is April 4. Space is limited to 15 participants. EQUESTRIAN TRAIL BUILDING SCHOOL La Riviere Park, Prairie du Chien, WI April 30 - May 3, 2008 |

If I'm correct, you're on the far east side of the state, and Prairie Du Chien is all the way on the western edge of the state. And I'm in the middle. |

Ahh... Prairie Du Chien (make sure you pronounce it Praarrey-da-sheen) is a fine WI river town! I did a lot of field work on the Upper Mississippi River in grad school (I went to UW-Madison). Make sure that you stop at Starks (if it still exists) - the only place I know of where you can get liquor, guns, and Mercury boat motors! I've never heard of La Riviere Park - maybe it's a city park. It's a scenic area and worth a visit - check out the Native Mounds and views of the Wisconsin River - Mississippi River confluence from Wyalusing State Park! |
