I am looking for an older model Bates Caprilli Close Contact saddle. The older style had a deeper seat which I prefer, and they are hard to find!! Could use 16.5 or 17 with regular flap. Thanks!!

Just a tip for your search: If you run into anyone who doesn't know how old their Bates is, the serial number will tell you.

My Bates' serial number was V0304217.

I don't know what all the numbers mean, but having compared it to other Bateses, I can tell you that the 03 = manufactured in 2003.

My 2003 had the "old style" deeper seat on it. I sadly had to sell it when my young horse grew out of it. Good luck with your search!

I just sold mine, too bad! I honestly HATE the new bates caprilli's...but I LOVVVVEEEDDD mine! The most comfortable saddle I have ever ridden in---I liked it much better than my old devoucoux and I even like it better (though it is a tight race) than my present prestige hunter classic d! (though I love my prestige)... good lucky with your search!

I have an older, deeper seat 17.5" Bates in beautiful shape. I've been toying with the idea of selling it because the flap is not quite forward enough when I jump fences over 3', and I tend to like slightly flatter saddles. I'll have to look at the serial numbers on mine - I bought it about a year ago, and I forgot how old the girl said it was. It's got the beautiful 2-toned leather (seat and knee padding are a little lighter than the flaps) and it's so much softer than the newer ones.

What's your price range?
