I would agree you would need a mission statement and vision to help focus why the group was formed and what the objectives are.

I would venture to say the primary goals of the Association would be to promote the breeding of TB's for the show ring, general welfare, and rehabilitation of TB racehorses for careers as sporthorses.

I say HURRAH HURRAH  :one:  to promoting our AMERICAN breeding...there are so many here in the states that are trying VERY hard to make nice TB's...and some of us keep importing more...which just adds to the unwanted population.

Whenever anything is official....SIGN ME UP!!! (Along with my two TB boys!!!)

I registered my TB stallion with the PHR because I have a mare owner wanting to breed a TB sporthorse and she is miles and miles away. I got my stallion registered, but the PHR has been very unresponsive about getting my stallion into their online stallion directory and they don't seem to answer emails.

So, I would be very interested in starting a sporthorse registry for TBs. The JC is a great company and I've found them very responsive and helpful, but we need a way for TBs non-racing achievements to be recognized.

Ok I managed to go through and pluck stuff out of the original thread. It is here in Planning.

Kinsella and Riggs did a ton of stuff (I mostly got in the way  ) and there is some great stuff there. We were hoping no to re-invent the wheel and gathered up some other associations things to see what looked good and use some of that for as a model. A place to start.

The PHR only has one poor soul doing all the work, or at least they did when I registered my horse. The PHR is not his only job responsibility unfortunately, and it was a few weeks before I got all my paper work.

I was under the impression that someone on COTH had a hand in organizing the Hello Horse site, or in the registration itself. One of the TB people (obviously) perhaps War Admiral??

Wasn't me, and I don't know who it was, but you can count me in with your plans!!

Most of what was started is located here....

Read it through and let's start to do something.

My little man has been in the vet hospital and we are supposed to be picking him up tomorrow. I hope to find more time to work on this.

The PHR is the Performance Horse Registry - started by The Jockey Club. Ned Bonnie is an attorney in Lexington KY and use to show in the A/O hunters. I think his wife Nina still does. They are involved with the Kentucky Horse Park - and had donated land to its formation. Probably the only way to have a street in KHP named after you!

Here is more about the PHR including it's origins and the path it has taken.

Just wanted to offer support to this idea - I love our TB mare, who was never raced, and would like to help however possible. Thanks for this great idea!

there were some earlier questions on North American Thoroughbred Society, who can be found at www.hellohorse.com. This group celebrates and supports the straight up Jockey Club horse, and so does not accept AIs. A major difference...

Here are some of the award programs: http://www.hellohorse.com/prize_list.htm And here's a press release, there is a survey going on if anyone with a TB cares to fill it out:

North American Thoroughbred Society Launches Survey
Company Seeks Feedback from Thoroughbred Community to Target New Programs

MADISON, NJ, April 24, 2008 – In a move to gather more information about how Thoroughbreds are being used outside of racing, the North American Thoroughbred Society (NATBS), a company that promotes the interests of Jockey Club-registered North American Thoroughbreds, today launched a short survey designed to elicit feedback from Thoroughbred owners. The data will help NATBS tailor programs to a wider range of members’ interests.

The three-minute survey poses seven questions with a range of possible answers that can be simply checked off, with flexibility to add more information if desired. It is being provided to a wide range of publications, directly emailed to people who request it, as well as available at www.hellohorse.com. Answers are confidential and the information is not shared with any outside individuals or organizations. Survey results will be posted at www.hellohorse.com later this summer.

Survey feedback will provide NATBS with more information about members’ interests, as well as identify geographical areas where interest in Thoroughbreds is strongest. It will help the company plan events, tailor its educational offerings, and build community among its members.

Current NATBS award programs include its North American Series Awards, Worldwide Trails Program, and recognition at a broad range of dressage events. Information about NATBS, membership, and award programs can be found at www.hellohorse.com.

About The North American Thoroughbred Society

At the same time, the company recognizes Thoroughbred horses’ achievements through merit awards and other means across a range of equine disciplines. The company is membership-based, privately held, and located in Madison, New Jersey. For more information, visit www.hellohorse.com.
