I was watching a news program the other day that exposed a little secret about faux fur. Often it's actually fur from a dog or other animal! It's just not "fox, seal, rabbit. or mink" but a domestic dog? I am a PETA hater, I hate everything they do.. but I do agree that fur is needless killing for fashion. If something claims to be fake, it had better be fake, not the fur of a golden retriever or pet poodle. Here's an article about it. http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/02/07/dog.fur/ |

I know, my point is though if it's fake, it needs to be fake, not just the fur of another animal. I was surprised by this. I don't wear fur anyway, but geez, a dog fur faux coat is just plain messed up. |

It would have to be labeled as dog fur and not Faux and most normal people don't want to wear Fido around anyway. |

It would bother me greatly to wear a fur-of-dog - however, I am sporting a leather belt and leather shoes today.....makes me feel sort of psycho - why is it okay for leather but not okay for fur?? And my tack is also all leather..... Am I the only one that gets bonkers thinking this stuff??? |

Leather I have no issue with as long as everything it came from was used. We eat (well some of us do) cattle, pigs, buffalo. Everything is used. Dogs live in my house, sleep in my bed, look at me adoringly since I'm the great hunter (I come home with the groceries!) I can't wear dog fur. I don't wear any other fur either. |

I've been a veggie since 1989 and I started wearing leather again in '93. I try not to "over use" leather (i.e., I prefer the roeckel gloves etc) but I do realize that my dogs eat cows and that cows generally are all used up when they are killed, so I have a little less issue with that than animals who are killed for Fur. Also, leather doesn't bother me so much if it's for a practical item...i've got more trouble with unnecessary decadence--i know fur is warm, but there are man made breathable materials that will keep you warmer than fur. |

I don't get fur, be it real of fake - I don't even think it looks good! When I see someone walking down the street in a fur coat, all I can think is "yeti":

If it's made from the hide of an animal, I can't be labeled faux fur. It doesn't make any sense. |

I am suspect of anything that comes from China. Rules just don't apply there. "Let's feed the customers cardboard in our steamed buns!" "Let's put melamine in the wheat!" Yep none of that is labeled either. The steamed buns were from street vendors and they were selling them to their fellow countrymen. How nice.

It's labelled Faux Mink or Faux Sable, etc. Real fur, not mink or sable fur. Same for Faux Pony. Yes I"mnot making that up. biggest fashion trend for a while was actual factual hide from ponies. Faux pony/faux zebra etc etc are all real cowhide, dyed and processed to look like pony/zebra etc. |
