Just a small pity party for my back. I've been struggling with a sometimes very painful to other times slightly sore back for about 2 months now. Monday, I though to myself, 'wow, this is the first day the back has actually felt normal.' Tuesday wasn't as great as my back hates my work chair...but was feeling better by the time I started riding. That is...until my horse managed to spin out from underneath me about five minutes from the end of my ride last night. I got a little too relaxed and trusted him a little too much and bam, I'm hitting dirt...enough to get the wind knocked out of me. Thankfully, while my back is so sore I can hardly stand up, it's not the same place that's been plaguing me so I'm hopeful that pain-free days are merely a stone's throw. And seriously, my WB needs a new career as a cutting horse. Sucker can crouch and spin something fierce. See: Staring down that cow of a jump: ![]() Wait, it's going to get away! (He looks like he's doing a circus trick sitting on his ass) ![]() I survived that spin and came back for a bit of an 'overjump.' )wish my eq was that good all the time)

Ouch, that sucks. I used to ride a WB with a WICKED stop in him. I could come off 3-4 times in one ride. I have back problems too, and sitting at a desk doesn't help, but I got a balance ball chair, and that thing is AMAZING. Best $80 I ever spent. I got mine from Amazon. |

Well, thankfully, Show doesn't really have a stop in him. Just the occasional 'oh,-I'm-scared-and-I-can-tell-you're-really-nervous-and-not-going-to-make-me-so-I-think-I-will-stop' type stop. The stop in those pictures is from a trot as he had already sucked back from the canter. A few of my co-workers and I tried to get the balance ball chairs...our company wouldn't let us. They say they're all about ergonomics, but really it's about what THEY think is ergonomics and not what an individual has to say about how a specific chair might be hurting them.

My company wouldn't pay for mine, but I am allowed to use it. Will they let you bring one in?

Ouch, girl. I have lower back issues, and sometimes have muscle spasms when I ride (damn Preston and his huge canter!) so I feel your pain. I do have a balance ball, and really like it....any chance of the Powers That Be changing their tune? |

I'll have to ask. I know someone wanted to bring one in but I can't remember what ever came of that. Which kind of chair did you get? (amazon only shows one style) |

I would definitely have done a serious headplant into that jump. Which is why I don't jump any more. Sometime between age 16, when I stopped riding, and age 50, when I took it up again, falling changed from embarrassing to disastrous. |

ouch, snackpack! Sorry to hear about your back. Are you seeing a chiropractor? We have those Herman Miller aeron chairs at work and they're fantastic. (One of the very few office amenities we have.) btw, your eq does look amazing over that fence! |

yep - went from 14 yrs old when all is whoopidiidoo fun with the QH that could sit and spin me off to 40 and a TWH. TWHs DO NOT sit and spin. TWHs are easy to ride after you have sat a catty QH for years. I hear those ball chairs are all the rage - do they really really work???? BTW snacky - who do you snap piccies like that ? WOW!!! Action shot biggie time. |

Oooh, when I was a kid I had a pony that would do that. I once looked down from our barn's hayloft and watched her pitching a lesson pony over a fence. Doh. Hope your back feels better! |

Ouch Snackpack, I hope you're okay and feeling better! I also went splat very recently, on Sunday. It had been a while. An especially long while since I was a projectile (as opposed to going jumping ahead and paying the price or just falling off the side due to my own lack of balance, which is so much nicer because you fly through the air so much SLOWER that way, and hit the ground much softer). I got launched and landed RIGHT on my ASS (and I have the bruises to prove it). One would have thought that MY ASS was large enough to adequately cushion any fall. Apparently not, because my tailbone is absolutely killing me! I had to finish that ride and the next 2 rides in 2 point-- couldn't sit for even a SECOND. Since then, I really can't ride at all-- most of me feels better but the tailbone seems to be getting worse?! I was in tears last night trying to ride, gave up after 10 minutes. I've decided to take the rest of the week off, hoping that helps improve ye old ass bone. Feel better, these falls DO get worse as time goes on. And the kind where you get sent off with some velocity are SO much worse than the "oops, I lost my balance and just sort of stepped off" kind. |

Thanks for the sympathy all! The commiseration makes the pain a little less.
vxf111: Sorry to hear about your fall. Tailbones are one of the worst places to hit...and they take A LONG time to start feeling better. Make sure you didn't crack anything and then take it easy. As with most things, only time will help.
The "pictures" are actually screen captures from a video. (Yes, I have this lovely round on film  ) I can put them all together and get a pretty fun flip book effect. |
