I'm a big dork and am watching The Biggest Loser as I gulp herbal tea and water trying to flush myself out for weigh in tomorrow. The chef Rocco just reminded me of one of my favorite foods and it never even OCCURRED(sp?) to me to replace my pasta with lentils but I'm going out on Thursday to buy some and keep them in the house...banish the empty pasta calories!!!! |

Great tip! I bought a case of Amy's Organics soups this weekend, half of it is lentil soup, the other half is minestrone, and they are so good, and really filling.

How ironic. My mom made lentil soup and brought me some for dinner. It was yummy!

Ok, that may be the the funniest thing I have read today! I SO would do that same thing! love love love it!!! Actually, one of my favorite things to do when I am being "good" is to get a bag of the frozen veggies that has all sorts of beans in it -- Safeway calls it fiesta blend I think. Anyway I cook the veggies and pour my favorite marinara sauce all over it and sprinkle lightly with fresh parmesan cheese and it is completely satisfying. who needs the pasta? |

There is a new blend out there too, from Green Giant, called "Steamfresh", I think. They have one that has edamame, black beans, carrots, etc in it. Super yummy and very filling. I can eat that with half a grilled chicken breast and be very satisfied.

mmmm...edamame...love it. The kids I teach have all gotten into it because I eat it for lunch all the time and they wanted to try it. And steamfresh is the best invention EVER. I'm in love with that stuff. I buy 10-12 bags a week and eat it for lunch or dinner or sometimes both several times a week. |

Wegmans also has frozen baby veggies with baby carrots, baby broccoli, edamame and water chestnuts. It's VERY yummy! Beans and soups are great low-cal foods. I love beans. LOVE beans! |

Too funny. Lentils are a bean right?? I am not much of a bean lover, Kidney beans and pintos I guess are OK, but I stear clear cause the only way to eat is with rice! LOL I mat weigh myself tomorrow, I may not. I have been VERY good. Its geting easier to be good and say no! |

My coworkers are mystified by my eating habits. I said I will bring in something for them to try each week. So far they have tried: Arugula, Tabouille, Ratatouille (I don't like it, so mom made it), Tofu, and Lentils (red and regular). Next on the menu is Babaganoush (mom will have to make this too).

Good for you BH. It's amazing how unexperimental some people can be with their food and there's just so much cool stuff out there. I've never thought of replacing pasta with lentils. Awesome idea. Also love the idea of making "spaghetti" using a bean base. I love ratatouille, but haven't made it for awhile. Probably a cheater version but good for you for sure. Thanks for the reminder

Not as much protein but less calories is to take a peeler to a zuchini and make strips that you use (uncooked) as pasta. It's good with pesto or a garlicy veggie sauce. Probably not so great with your usual tomato based sauce... |
