I'b sick right now. Going outside makes my throat, lungs, and ears hurt, so needless to say I won't be riding or walking (although I am doing my barn chores - those have got to be done!). I could do a Total Gym workout inside but so far have done nothing. I wonder if working out helps you get better faster, or if you should focus all your energy on resting? Any thoughts? |

Rest!! I have this nasty total crud at the moment, and the only thing that makes it better is to sleep. Every time I fall asleep I am a little better when I wake up. I think of it as letting the body shut down for repairs
Sleeping was the plan for right now. Not keeping an eye on a possibly colicky pony with a swollen eye who hates my guts at the moment 'cause he had some banamine orally. Aiee. <sigh> Back to the barn. Hope you get better soon! libby |

You'll never get better if you don't rest! Your body is already running on "reserve" evergy trying to heal itself. That's the way I roll!

Ok, rest it is. I just feel a little...flabby...since my vacation last week. Although being sick is a good way to lose weight fast since I can't taste anything and am not really hungry! I think, though, that chocolate is important for healing. No matter the ailment. Chocolate will do the trick!

I will be the lone voice of dissention. I work out when sick. As long as I can muster the energy. I think it gets all the crap in my body moving, and helps push out toxins. That's just my opinion, not based on medical facts in any way. With that being said, you can work out and still rest...make sure you are eating right, getting plenty of fluids, and a bit more rest than usual. |

Hmmmm....I had considered that viewpoint as well. I have been feeling better so maybe tomorrow I will do a light workout. Well Mr. Fishy has been slaving over the stove all day to make me home made French Onion Soup - he baked onions for 2.5 hours and has been in the kitchen for another two hours after that. I don't know what on earth he's doing, but I know it will taste realllllly good! (Or I know it should taste good but considering I can't taste anything right now I'll have to assume it will) |

Depends on how you feel and what you are calling a workout. Generally, I believe the basic guidelines are fever = no, nausea/vomiting = no, upper respiratory (stuffy nose & head) = ok, lower respiratory (lungs) = no. But of course...a little chest cold is one thing; a big head cold is another. It really depends on how you feel. If you are feeling weak and/or lightheaded, definitely not. If it doesn't make you feel worse, I generally say a light workout will make you feel better, but LIGHT is the key word = walking instead of running, not weight lifting, etc. Walking outside is the best, I think. In the sun. On a beach. |

I work out but I take it easy! ( I cut the work out time in half.) I tend to feel better after I work out. |
