Well after a few months of my abusive under saddle work
- she was much more even in the muscle department, but I noticed she was still uneven skeletally. It is really hard to tell uneven-ness on a pinto! So I had the chiro out to work on her and we got the hind end cracked, but she ran out of patience by the time we got to the front and we didn't accomplish much there.
After this first adjustment, I gave her a few days and then saddled her up (after attempting carrot stretches - she doesn't know how to eat carrots
) and as I was walking her down the aisle, I noticed a pair of hind ankle boots on a horse's door and a lightbulb turned on! So I snatched them on my way by and put them on when I got to the ring. I am not sure if it was the boots, or the chiro, but it was the best ride we had ever had (with the exception of when she got mad at the boots when she interfered)!!!Spoke with chiro and he thought the boots were an excellent idea as well because they get her to focus on those hind feet a little more. I may end up getting weighted ones eventually, but I want her to grow some more first as I am NOT dropping that kind of cash on something that she will outgrow in 6 mos. that will not fit anything else in the barn either! So chiro comes back out and starts at the front this time - didn't get the hind end finished because her patience ran out again, but he felt the prior adjustment had held up pretty well and the dropped hip looked almost perfect. So I give her a few days, and (after another futile attempt at carrot stretches ) brought her out with her new set of ankle boots (the ones I borrowed were too big) --- I was so pleased with the ride I just wanted to bust!!! Instead, I am sharing it here with my cyberfriends!I have to use a small bucket of grain for the stretches, but am trying to give her a little piece of carrot here and there to get her interested. I just don't do treats -- well I have a few that have former abuse issues, but that is it. Even Yak isn't carrot savvy! When I get back from FL, the chiro will come out again, and we plan to sedate her this time. She has been really good up until he has one more adjustment to do.... |
