The insurance has been a non-issue with me because I insure my horses (those eligible for insurance anyway). So I've never had to ask a lessor to insure the horse because they were already insured. I would just roll this cost into the "lease fee" and do the insurance yourself. That way you get the company you like and don't have to worry about confusion over anything.
