I think you should keep riding up to delivery day, and then of course resume after your 6 week check up.

Don't think I haven't tried to talk Lion into it, MGP!

I'm starting to look for a lessor right now too. It's frustrating. Lucky me got basically no notice that the prior person was going to stop riding-- so I have pretty much written off February as a wash. How can I expect other people to commit with no notice? People are rude (another irritation of lease/half leasing)... anyway...

I think thinks will pick up once the weather gets a little warmer. Right now, only crazies like us think riding is a good idea. You'll find someone!

Would that I could MGP. Would that I could. :) Don't think my trainer doesn't call once a week to tell me how much everyone misses me. It kills me, but makes me so happy all at the same time.

Veronica - the three "S"s are about the only ones that could entice me to cross the bridge into the Jerz! hehe.

Man, she wanted a half lease for $150 a month? In a pretty affordable area I'm paying $225 for half board plus another $100 or so a month for shoes/supplements and $200/mo for lessons that are part of the terms of the lease.

I think I'm getting off pretty cheap!!

$150 for two days a week isn't unusual, but it really depends on the area, the facility, and the horse.

Out here that would be a fair 2-day a week rate on a barefoot horse that could trail ride and do basic lessons, boarded at a facility without an indoor.

For a more capable horse at a boarded nice, indoor facility, shoes all around, you're looking at $300 and up for three days a week...

Lessons are in addition to this :)

I paid $125 for a half lease (3x a week). Horse was on pasture board and that just about added up to the half the board and expenses. I did it for two years.

I have a barnmate who figures out how much each of her horses cost her per day and then charges that to each person 'leasing' depending on how many days they ride.

You know it is funny because I get people b***hing about the cost of the leases here as well. We have a very safe gelding that for 3 days a week at $150 a month that is half of the board and this horse any one can ride. Then I have a dressage mare for full lease at $200 a month. Right now I have a great lady doing the lease on the mare but it is about to stop because she has fallen in love with a gelding that I have for sale. So it is nice to sell the gelding but that means that I am back looking for a lease for the mare. :brickwall:
