I recently acquired a horse with a torn collateral ligament. This was diagnosed by x-rays. No MRI or U/S was done. The injury happened 2 weeks ago. The horse is not lame, there is no heat and no swelling. The horse is on rest but is turned out daily, and no meds are currently being given. Anyone else ever have a horse with this injury? Please correct me if I am wrong, but don't you need to do an MRI or u/s to determine this type of injury? The horse is not lame at the w-t-or c, sound on small circles. Any opinions and advice is appreciated! |

Diagnosed soft tissue injury with an x-ray? Conclusively? I agree with you I believe it should need an MRI or ultrasound. My horse we "believe" tore a ligament in his hoof, nothing showed on the xray so we confirmed not broken. Can't confirm the tear. When blocked it was confirmed in his hoof. However, my horse was only lame to the right on a lunge circle, he was sound to the left. I had issues with my trainer because she didn't think he was lame when she would look at him. I kept telling her TURN HIM TO THE RIGHT!!! I was not at the barn same hours as she was. Anyway, my horse has been on lay up for 4 months now. He did show sound both directions in Nov. My vet said 4-6 months lay up (injured in Sept) I am waiting now for another vet to come out to do a ultrasound to see if there are any lesions and whether or not we can start him back. If I were you I would have it checked again. You do not want to cause a chronic problem that will be worse in the long run. |
