Hey, Magic! I was there too! I agree with everything you said...it was really fun to watch. I think it would be even more fun to watch one outdoors.

You HAVE to go to the Canterbury one in June to see it outside. It's gorgeous out on the grass field.

If one is held at a VA show, I'd absolutely take one of my horses in it!
They'd have a blast. :one:

My friend Tracey has already said she'd take her hunt mare, Clementine, in it as well. :)

How high ws the walk fence???

It was pretty small, maybe a foot and a half? It was just a little vertical- looked pretty easy.

How high was the course set? Was it 3'6" or higher?

We should all rally & get a VA show to add this class to their prize list, I really want to go watch!

Thanks Magic! I bet I could manage that! ;)
I forgot it was held indoors. I'd love to gallop over an outdoor course. If you have one in Virginie, I'll have to fly over and borrow a horse!!

At least. One option jump (two jumps sharing a common standard) was right in front of me - I believe the outside jump was 4' and the inside was 3'9. I guess I should have taken some video <_<

Hey, Magic! Yep, I was there...but I didn't see the pony-sized black dogs. I'm sorry I missed that! I was sitting to the left of the bank, right in front of the green and white jump that everyone kept rubbing (near the walk jump). There was quite a bit of wine being consumed with our group, so I'm afraid we were rather loud. :(

Giddy-up, I'll definitely try to make it out to Canterbury! The whole thing was so cool...it really made the hunters thrilling.

When they announced there was a walk jump, I thought they meant the riders had to lead the horse over it. I was picturing everyone hopping over the fence in their shadbellies. I was a bit disappointed when I realized that wasn't happening.

We saw videos of two of the ones that they have had while in Phoenix. They looked amazing and like so much fun! The jumps were beautiful and the courses very very imaginative.
Here is what the course must consist of:
Two rounds .. second round is Handy.

The first round: 10 jumps minimum, from 3'6"-3'9", there must be four 4' fences in the course set as option jumps, there must be at least one in and out, at least one bending line and at least one line with unrelated distance.

Round 2:Fence height 3'6"-3'9" there must be four 4' fences in the course set as option fences, the course must have a minimum of two of the following options: trot jump, open gate while mounted, lead over a jump, tight turn option, clever options for jump approaches, halt and or back, walk a jump.

top 12 return for second round
Obstacles must simulate jumps reminicent of hunt field, with natural foliage, natural banks and ditches encouraged. Ground lines have to be of one material and are not to exceed 18" and for appropriate jumps no ground line is acceptable.

I am really looking forward to seeing one in Virginia too!
They said they had at least 40 horse shows who had asked permission to have one. They must have a minimum of 10,000 prize money so that is a great number I think!
