1.....have farrier measure horse's feet after trimming. Record carefully.
2....spend hours looking at size charts online only to decide NONE will work.
3....convert measurements into metric and reevaluate sizes....still not sure.
4...scour house looking for actual metric ruler...5 rulers found, none with metric
5....decide to remeasure hooves with fabric measuring tape IN metric
6....determine farrier's measurements are wrong....head off to local dealer which is also farrier supply place. Make sure to mention your farrier's name and that he is incompetent at measuring.
7....buy boots that clearly seem way too big but since you know you can measure....bring them home.
8....don't even bother trying them on because they are for a clydesdale, not a TB
9....measure again.....hmmmm.....maybe farrier WAS right and I am idiot?
10....back to farrier supply place and exchange for one size smaller....even though you are still doubtful....still look way too big and wide.
11....put boots on TB and she looks like clown. Put on draft pony and they fit perfectly. Now that they are filthy....decide to keep them.
12....measure again....in inches. Decide farrier's measurements WERE probably correct.
13....back to farrier supply place....hoping to clear farrier's name but person to whom you griped to is not there. Buy ANOTHER pair of boots....different type. Man working counter said "next time, just do a tracing."

Now own 1 pair Cavallo Simple Boots which seemed best designed for draft feet, and 1 pair EasyCare Boas, which fit my TB very nicely. Hopefully they will help her tender soles instead of winter shoes for a few training sessions x week.

Cost: $225....100 miles on car....frozen fingers.....hurt pride.....need to apologize to farrier. :(

I think boots are the worst possible things in the world to size.

Apologies if I found that very very funny!!!!! :teehee: :point: :psycho:
Mostly b/c I've been there myself in various forms.
I think she'll do great in them, at least you did find a pair that works!!
Mine usually ends up with me not actually gettting what I needed.

Well, it is funny (in retrospect). <_<

Just adding that so far, so good. My TB seems pretty happy with her boots....left them on all last night for turnout and seems ok. They look like they may rub the front her hoof just a little bit (there was little shiny clean spot) but otherwise don't look like they bother her. I might try using the neoprene gaiters for working, just to make sure there is a little extra cushion around the top of the boots.

We'll do some light lunging in them this weekend and see if they eliminate the odd steps she sometimes takes (that the vet concluded was just sensitive feet, especially over the toes.) :luck:

My draft pony seems fine in her Cavallos, too. If the ground actually freezes we'll put them away for a while, but on very muddy days I will use them for turnout.
