Carol did venture into some color breeding. Choccie is one result of that venture; unfortunately breeding a gray to a cremello does not always give you the desired result. Choc was born a chocolate palomino with a big white blaze and nice hind sock. Very flashy. Until the grey gene won out. When my sister, Nina, bought him he was well, anyone remember the old Frank Zappa song "Watch out where the huskies go and don't you eat that yellow snow." Yeah, that color. Now he is a lovely (well, when clean) grey - but his color is interesting. Instead of being gray/black his points are brown. Dark brown mane and tail. Brown dapples. Brown points on the legs. Amber eyes, with huge "angel kisses" around them. He is grey for sure but a different sort of grey. I suspect the cream gene is modifying the effects of the grey gene. Maybe. Anyway, he is sort of cool looking and no longer yellow. Anyway, I was most impressed by Mr. Magic when I saw him. He is truly a beautiful mover. And a great temperament. Our "Bubba" went trotting across the paddock this morning when I turned him out. He is a *wonderful* mover, not very big (about 15'3" I would guess) but with a huge, elastic stride w/o knee action. Those horses (and ponies and honies) of Magical's lineage are pretty nice IMO. Sue |
