Having been out of the eventing loop for 7 years, I now realize that my Troxel schooling helmet is not only passe, but probably not the safest thing out there. Hopefully, I will soon be returning to riding and have been looking at the CO Pro Racing Skull Cap. When I first started eventing, I wore the old Caliente and then switched to the Troxel in later years. My one huge complaint with the Caliente was how hot it got, of course, I lived in FL then and now I live in WV. Anyway, does anybody here ride in the CO Skull Cap? I also looked at the CO J3, but it does not come in my size (7 5/8) - you know, more brains to cover

I had the Pro Racing skull cap. It does get very hot and stink. Well, at least mine did!
The J3 is not much cooler. One thing about the Pro Racing is that it gets so hot, the inside padding disintegrates. I had chunks of black foam fall in my eyes while riding. I always felt safe in it though because it fit well. Until the padding fell apart. Then, I threw it away.

Thank you, WFM, this is just the kind of information I wanted! I'm just a very hot natured person anyway and my old Caliente fried me - I mean I would take it off and my whole head would be soaked and it was stinky, too. Oh, well, I was hoping for new and improved skull cap, but now I guess I'll have to go to the Giant Bubble Head Look - and I already have a Jimmy Neutron head to begin with. Thanks again. Do you event? What helmet are you wearing now? |

I love my Tipperary - the Troxels were heavy and did not breath in the summer. The Tipp is lighter, fits my head better, and is not so top heavy to me. Umm, I have not sniffed it lately.....
