Is the meadow on fire?

O.k guys... be gentle with me
I went to try out a really nice horse recently. She is EVERYTHING I want in a horse... in a phrase my Dream Horse. Now, keep in mind I am really out of shape and haven't had a decent riding lesson since before my son was born (he is 2 1/2)... Well, my test ride was PITIFUL! I barely had the strength to keep this horse in a frame, mind you I was without my spurs and did not have a whip until later (she seemed to be a heavy ride). So as I'm struggling, yes struggling to ride this horse I can just hear the owner thinking "I'm not going to sell MY horse to HER." However, the owner was very gracious and invited me to come out for a second round of public humiliation... so I'm going to take her up on it... this time with my saddle, spurs and whip to help my jell-o legs. Now with my horse I have no problems what so ever. Mind you he is a hand and a half shorter than the horse I tried out... But I feel my horse is softer and a heck of a lot more forward. So I kind of don't get it. Different training methods perhaps? Although I do feel this horse may be a bit much for me at this time, I also feel she is a good horse for me to grow into. With lessons over the winter I bet we would be ready for anything come spring. I don't know if this is a rant or a thinly veiled cry for support, or even a plea for advice, lol. |

Don't be too hard on yourself. Unless you're actually riding on a consistent basis, it's really hard to stay in shape - for riding! Something to consider...I don't like to use spurs when I'm out of shape and my legs are wobbly. I don't want to accidently poke the horse...then God forbid they get too forward in a big hurry and I'm really not prepared to hang on. I prefer to carry a stick if I need a little more in the 'let's get moving' department. (But that's just me!)I would definitely take the owner's offer to ride again. But this time, please bring a friend...and have them bring a camera...then post a pic of you on this lovely horse so we can all tell you how fabulous you look! |

I'll see what I can do
I have heard that this woman does not allow cameras on her property (she is a bit on the strange side). But here are some photos taken this spring of me and my little guy. He is like driving a Porsche... the horse I tried out was more like an Aircraft Carrier (funny thing is that she too is an Arabian, lol).![]() ![]() I don't get to ride/work my horse as much as I would like since the days are getting shorter and my hubby doesn't get home until waaaay after dark. Our hopes are to have our son in a Preschool or Daycare program three days a week by January. That would free up a lot of time for me to get back in the saddle and hopefully regain some of the ground I've lost... |

Im sure the seller understands that your out of shape. You can tell someone who knows how to ride but is out of shape and then you can tell when someone who is inexperienced. Dont worry yourself about it, Im sure you did great. And just think, if the horse is ok with you being out of shape, imagine how great its going to be when your in shape. |

Eh, don't worry about it. When I tried my horse, it was like watching a freak show. The flat stuff was fine, but man oh man, I don't know how many times I uttered 'I have a trainer that will be helping me' while trying to jump him. He'd only been jumped a couple of times and is a spooky sort, so he'd suck back and then would LEAP over stuff. It wasn't pretty. |

O.k. I admit I could ude some lessons... today's ride was better, but I still only look slightly better than a trained monkey ( I really need to sit back and use my seat better... but that requires core strength :P)
I did manage to get someone to take some pics... And I LEFT A DEPOSIT!!!!!! Here are some pics from the ride ![]() ![]()

Thanks guys! HH, She is a Showkayce+ daughter out of a Bey Shah daughter (actually she is a full sister to ShowGun++/). When I saw this mare as a three year old (three years ago) I fell in love with her <3. I knew if the powers to be ever gave me the opportunity to snap her up I would in a heartbeat. I am not sure if I want to put her to Black next year or not... I kind of want to have some fun with her and do some showing... we'll see BTW she is only around 15.2 hh, but she is built like a brick ......... house! |
