I have a 2 year old gelding and I'd like to be able to correctly state his color when marketing. He is out of a TB bay mare and by Waps Millenium. Waps Millenium is a gorgeous, big appy sporthorse with a grullo base color and a big blanket. My boy didn't get any spots but he inherited the dun coloring from his sire. Now, is he a grullo like his Dad, or a bay dun? I know that grullo is dun modified by black and I'm guessing that the only way to be certain would be genetic testing? Anyway, here is the boy in question. This is his summer coat and he does have a smoky look to him that doesn't show that well in this pic:![]() This is his sire: ![]() and this is his dam (she has a definite stripe too - I guess it is countershading in her case though):

I'd say Dun Bay...and a great example of one, I might add... Isn't it funny, that his dad is SO loud..and he without any spots???!?!?! Does he have any other dun factors???? You can stress that if you are trying to get people who are interested in nice horses that are of color.. There are a few "buckskin" groups out there to market toward too... Good Luck... HH

Thanks. He's a really nice boy. We just started him under saddle and he has done so well. He's got his mother's TB work ethic
He has the whole dun thing going on: dorsal stripe, face masking, zebra striping on his legs and shoulder. I have been marketing him as a sporthorse but you have given me an idea. I probably should advertise him on the buckskin/dun lists as there probably aren't too many with his coloring combined with a mostly TB pedigree. Waps Millenium has quite a bit of TB as well and he is 16.2 hh. I think he'd make a nice eventer myself. He moves nicely and is bold without being spooky. |

Go for it..buckskins are in alot of breeds..so why not promote him within their groups.. This is the one I read..it's an email type of group..I'm sure there is one that is set up like this one..I think this is easier to follow.. http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/Bucks...unGrullaHorses/ I see a horse for sale a couple of times a week..Take lots of good pictures of his factors and put them in the photo album that is offered on that site..it can't hurt.. Have a great weekend HH
