My girlfriend and I were saying it would be so much fun to have a Pony Club for grownups. We were picturing monthly meetings held at various barns in the area with discussions on horse-related topics. And, of course, wine and cheese. Or martinis. Or cosmos. (You get the picture!)

Does such a thing already exist? Can I start a franchise in the Chicago area????

If you're involved in PC for grownups, what does your club do?

Snaffle, I have always thought that was a great idea and the closest thing I've seen is the OPRC (Old Peoples Riding Club) - absolutely hate the name!! I went to one of their meetings once, but it was mainly just where they were going to meet for the next trail ride, blah, blah, blah. They do have levels, but they were very basic stuff. Maybe other chapters would be more informative and I did only go to one meeting, so I guess I shouldn't judge. Maybe it was the name that turned me off! Anyway, that's the only organization that I know of that would be like Adult Pony Club!!

I've heard of some of the kinds the above poster said. IMO, they're lamesauce.

My ideas for starting your own (as a previous PC youth nerd):

Find a for real deal Pony Club instructor, meaning someone who graduated with their A and now teaches Pony Club lessons. Share your ideas with Him/Her and see if you can come up with a basic idea, with inviting ways for members to join.

Start advertising. Group lessons on X day sorted by X level, with previous mentioned Pony Club instructor. Maybe the instructor can give a slight break for the large group to get more motivation going.

I guess you would elect a group president of all you riders/students. This president would organize your stable management meetings, or your wine and cheese gatherings as you referred to them :cheer: . These are educational in the unmounted way, such as feeding practices, bandaging techniques (and making bandages!), first aid, trailering and any other unmounted requirement that comes up in the ratings. The Pony Club instructor doesn't necessarily have to be involved.

Start advertising, I guess you know have a saddle club that is taking off the ground using USPC principles, and a USPC instructor.

Contact USPC and harass them about starting a branch of Pony Club for those who aren't younger than 25 (the PC age limit).

OK, admittedly probably NOT what you wanted to get replies, but oh well. :innocent: . I encourage you to get this going, it could be an awesome, fun thing!

There is!!! It is called horsemasters. It is a USPC program. Here is a link you have to scroll to the "H" section. It gives the guidelines for it.

http://www.ponyclub.org/forms.php#H

also here are some links to clubs that have already started a horsemasters.

http://nchorsemasters.ponyclub.org/

http://www.cimarron.ponyclub.org/horsemast...0rackensack.htm

You get the idea, to see if there is one in your area call or email pony club, or google horsemasters.

I understand it is a lot of fun. If there is not one in your area, contact your local Pony Club, and inquire about starting one. I can garantee that a majority of the adults involved with PC are more than willing to start one.

Let me know what you find out!!!

Oh how fun! I'll have to check the link.....I would love such a thing - not having started riding until adulthood....and there are lots of people out there like me!

PS so glad to hear the name "Horsemasters" instead of "Adult Pony Club" or "Old People's Riding Club"! Doubt I'd want to be affiliated with either (pony club sounding like a kid that couldn't grow up) and not sure I am quite an "Old Person" yet.....at 38. Old enough, for sure....but why rush things? :P
