Yeah...I know and am VERY afraid of those spiders! I live in Austin and on my way home at like 2am from a frat party someone behind me said there was a spider on my back. I didn't believe them until my boyfriend started swatting me trying to get it off. Didn't work. The spider was clinging onto my clothing and wouldn't come off. So, considering that I was slightly intoxicated...I ran down the street tearing my clothes off. Can you say....HUMILIATING?

People still laugh at me because of that....memories :D

I don't mind spiders as long as they are not on me. Although we do have black widows, and so those have got to go no matter what. I don't blame you for not mowing with those around - ack!!! :argh:

I have to admit, I'm fine with them when they are still. I bumped the web of the one pictured and she ran quickly to the humilia bush (which was the opposite direction of my hand), but I still jumped ten feet. :o

I need to go out and check her again and see if she's moved (and her 20+ friends).

What's really strange is that they only appear here when it gets really hot (August) and they're gone by late October.

I like my tarantulas better...probably because I never see them

Dues...

A website JUST for tarantula fans :jaw:

http://www.tarantulas.com/forum.asp

I love Tarantulas! I had a pet Pink Kneed at my pet store years ago. She was very easy to handle. I sometimes would put her on my shoulder and she would sit there. I hand fed her Crickets. She was very fuzzy, and large. Unless she got scared you never got the little hairs stuck in your skin. Thats what they do and its so darn irritating and itchy. If they bit you and she never did. ITs liie a bee sting. They are not deadly I think they are cool But then I have been know to be very weird! I like my very seldom seen Massasauga rattlers and my bats as well. :innocent:

Sannois, it is scary how connected we are!!! I had a friend (well a client - my SO built their log home) who had a tarantula and she was so sweet. And I have had pet snakes in the past - 2 snow corns and a ball python, plus an iguana, a jeweled curly tailed lizard and a precious bearded dragon!!

Convinced We were seperated in childhood!!!
I had a Ball Python that a guy gave up. Actually took it in for a consignment sale and the guy never came back. I had her for about 3 months, Full grown adult about 3 feet. She was not in love with me. He had her in a big plexiglass tank with a 10 lb weight on it, he said make sure you keep the weight on she can get the top off. NExt day I walk in the store Umm Wheres the snake. Top moved with 10 lb weight on it. She had a great 2 week romp I had over 100 fishtanks and all kinds of air pipes and all sorts of places she could get into. She knocked things off shelves, never did get into the rodent cages but I am pretty sure the few problem loose hamsters I had that I could not catch were eliminated. I swear when I did find her she was wrapped around a PVC air pipe she was as strong as an ox I had a tug of war getting her off. I finally sold her to a guy who came in and held her on several occasions. She was always right at home hanging on his arm and shoulder. Me she always tried to get away, other woman too. Strange. Her name was Esmie! :) :P

She is in the need of a "stomp and drag"...

We have them too....and like most of you..I don't mind them if they are over there and I'm over here.. We call them Zig Zag spiders..and I have 2 that I know of..one on the trailer..connected to the fence..poor thing..she'll be leaving soon..and one in the corner of the barn..

I have alot of the black kinda fuzzy ones with the white spots on them..they hang around the feed..I guess because of the flies..they aren't very big..

HH

The garden spiders do bite but they are not agressive. I understand it feels similar to a wasp. If you dont like them where they are just knock them down with a broom and they will go find another place to hangout. They are indeed very good to have around they love mosquitos! We must have close to 30 or so of them. They like to hang their webs high so I usually dont bother relocating them.

Seems the horses are always getting into their webs too! They come in evry day with webs stuck to their forlocks :o So everyday I pick them out just to find more the next day.

They are freaky big arent they??

I think they are cool, but I argree, I don't want them things on me. They are big spiders!!

Scary.

Spiders have excellent eyesight by the way.

We had a tarantula named Harry that lived near my front door in Tucson. Every so often he would be waiting for me on the stoop. He would rear up and put his legs in the air to scare me away. No joke. It was a big spider.

I let him go on his way before I trespassed on his territory.

I saw some big spiders in the Amazon Jungle too.
