Oh, dear. I'm so sorry. Both my MIL and Mom have been fighting cancer this year, so I know how hard it is. Just be glad that he passed peacefully, without pain. There are a lot of hidden blessings in that which will become apparent once the pain subsides.

I am so sorry for your loss.

I'm sure his mom appreciates your support right now and hopefully you can take some comfort from her, too.

Sending    to you all from NY

Your post really moved me. My hubby's best friend is 36 years old with two small children and he is battling testicular cancer. Unfortunately by the time it was discovered it had already spread to his lymph nodes. We are leaving in two days to go spend a few days with him (he lives in canada).

Hugs to you from Tennessee.

Thank you all so much, the posts truly mean a lot to me. For any who have gone through this or are going through this you have my deepest sympathy.

Yesterday was really hard, we spent the entire day taking things to Goodwill and then moving the rest back to his mother's house. I did wave at anyone who happened to be at Dressage at Devon though (he lived on the mainline in Wayne, PA so had to pass DAD to get to Goodwill).

I still don't think it's really hit me yet though. I've spent so much time trying to be strong for everyone else I haven't really processed anything yet. I mean, his mom needs me, my son has been crying on and off (the kids called him Uncle XXXX because he was so close), one of my other friends has been hit really hard by what happened. I just feel like I've gotten no time to sit and just relax and deal, on the other hand I'm not really sure I want that time so I've been keeping busy.

My best friend was actually in cancer research (he compiled and made sense out of data from various drug trials) and prior to that had worked as a patient insurance advocate in pediatric oncology. It seems so wrong that someone who spent their adult life trying to help people with cancer should end up dying from it. I just can't see any justice there.

Thanks again everyone for your thoughts. It really helped to read what was written.

Mini lecture for all (sorry).

Please consider donating blood and/or platelets. I work in oncology and every bag (stamped "volunteer") hung for a patient makes me say a little prayer for each donor.

I give platelets every 2 weeks.

Please. Thanks
