Located just south of Madison, WI.

Asking $3500

Stan is a quiet laid back guy who is uncomplicated and beginner-friendly. He has been used for 4-H demonstrations with topics ranging from Showmanship to Driving to things like bathing and grooming, and always loves the attention.

He has been shown under saddle in open shows by both myself and a few junior riders, and I have also shown him in Halter and Ladies Cart classes. He has performed like a gentleman, often in the ribbons, and takes the show ground environment in stride.

Well behaved when hacking out on the trails or out on the road for a Sunday drive, he navigates water crossings, and handles the company of cars, tractors, bicycles, and dogs.

I have taken dressage lessons on Stan, and been quite pleased with his success. He is very honest and uncomplicated, as well as remarkably soft and supple for such a big guy. His trot is easy to sit, and he takes up contact readily. Schooling some 1st level movements at the trot, but could use a bit of work balancing up at the canter.

An easy keeper, has been on rough board pasture and goes barefoot. Sound for flatwork. Excellent manners for farrier and vet. Clips, bathes, loads, stands tied.

Has spent the past two months in a therapeutic program, where he had the right tempermant and personality, but his size limited his utility there, so he is sadly being offered for sale.

Stan's donation to a program that offers therapeutic driving in addition to riding is pending.

He is absolutely beautiful. I hope that works out for him, because he seems the type of horse that would make a lot of people happy.

Thanks! He's a real sweetheart, loves attention from anyone and everyone - definitely not a one-person horse  So I'm hoping he's a good fit with this program :luck:

I have heard that a lot of the therapeutic programs will shy aways from the bigger ones, but the fact that he drives is a huge asset. That seems to be getting more popular in therapy because it opens the doors for those who can not be on horseback.

I am trying to find a home for my guy and he has one of those angelic, people loving personalities too. Totally unflappable. You have to love a draft. If he was further along with driving, I would think he would be a perfect fit with a therapy program.

Good luck to you. I hope it works out.

Thanks!

There did seem to be quite a few that steer clear of the big guys when I was calling around the first time, but there are some that do take them, either because they offer driving, or because they have a large number of adult and/or physically independant riders.

Though it's not in your area JMS, I did just get a message from Partners for Progress ( http://www.partnersforprogressnfp.org/index.php ), and they're looking for a draft horse as well. So there are some places that are looking. I just had to wade through a lot of people that were full, disinterested, or even downright offended before I found the few that could use an equisaurus.

Fingers crossed for you with re-homing your guy as well :luck:
