Well, not that I speak from experience but my advice is to find a Gyn that does not do OB as well; usually they are more focused on older (sheesh.....) women that are not looking to have babies....personally I think they are more attuned to looking at the person, not what might be *typical* for the whole population of menstruating adults. Having been through infertility treatments, I have a whole new outlook on what I want from my doctor, and I'm not going to be afraid to say it - not only do I want a *fix* to any problems, I want to know the cause and don't just tell me to relax and it's just normal. Interestingly, my infertility doc's wife is a Gyn that does not do OB. She works with adult [mature] women only and I'm planning on giving her a call as soon as I feel my basic OB/Gyn isn't meeting my needs anymore. I think that too many women *deal* with things that are just not necessary, and in fact, may be a medical concern. My SIL had unusually heavy and long bleeding, rampant PMS/anxiety, and a feeling that *something* was wrong. Her ob/gyn did a basic exam and gave her a prescription for anti-depressants and sent her on her way. She got a 2nd opinion and had a full hysterectomy because of a huge dermoid cyst on one ovary and multiple fibroid tumors. She is fine now, but good lord, how long might she have suffered if she just took the meds and didn't get another opinion??? Good luck! |

My issues are very different- but hear, hear! And thank you to the doctor who finally told me what was wrong.
I'd like to know too! My grandmother has had them, my mother has had them, and now I have them, and my mother assaults me with tweezers whenever she thinks I'm not paying attention. |

 I feel your pain, Renn! My Mom owns a skincare center. Last week, I went for an eyebrow wax, and that woman slapped some wax on my chin and started ripping away before I could mount an defensive strategy. Thankfully none were black, but it annoys her that I "don't mind" the light lenugo (sp?) hairs that I have. I'll bet every one of those bastards will come back in black!! |

Finding this thread a bit late. Off to the OB/GYN today. I am 43 and guessing I am starting this dreaded journey early. I have been having HEAVY periods for months and then this month it decided not to show
Of course, I have done 2 HPT, terrified I might be preggo at 43 (haven't I been through this  ) but thankfully they were negative. I am bloated, my hair is greasy (it is usually so dry), I am cranky, and I have had terrible back pain for months (though this is probably unrelated.) I am scared it is something else which is why I am running to the OB. If it is only hormonal, then I really feel old.
