MGP...going through the exact same thing...periods from hell during menopause. Yep, got all checked and it's not anything but the menopause wreaking havoc on me. Do get checked though...just to be sure. And when you go...ask your ob-won-gynobi about Endometrial Ablution. I'm having it done in a couple months...it's a 5 minute office procedure that stops your periods FOREVER Mwuahahaha! No hospital stay...no surgery...no hormones needed afterwards. It's a small instrument they use that's inserted through the cervix and then it pulses small electrical charges for a couple minutes...which stops the uterine walls from being able to build up any blood for your periods. Doesn't affect ovulation or anything...just stops the periods themselves. No bleeding, no cramps, no bloating, nothing. Doc told me it's absolutely painless...recovery is 24 hours of not doing anything heavy and most procedures are done on Fridays with the women returning to work and normal activities on Monday. You're awake during it and can drive yourself home. I'd have had it done much sooner than this...but having the home farm means I have to time it when the SO can take over for the 24 hours or so of recovery time. Hope this helps...good luck! |

Don't ignore those awful periods! I damn near died earlier this year from excessive bleeding
I kept thinking it was just menopausal stuff and got very sick. Finally my Doctor ran blood tests and my hemoglobin was 6. No wonder I felt so bad She put me on massive doses of iron and did a "NovaSure" procedure on my rampaging uterus Best thing I ever did. I'm healthy again now and probably won't need a hysterectomy. Go see your OBGYN and tell her you want it NOW

I'm sorry that you're having trouble like this. In next life - I want to come back as a man. My advice is to start tracking all this stuff now - because in addition to the funky periods, you may start having other troubles. Keeping a list of symptoms by day (I do it on a calendar I keep on my sewing table) is helpful when discussing things with your doctor. I've spent the past 9 months dealing with recurrent ovarian cysts - I tell you what - that is a whole new kind of pain. Hope you never have one of those... |

MyGiantPony I am 20 and have the same problems. Ever since I started my period I would have excessive bleeding lasting for months at a time. I've had every test run you can think of. Started some heavy duty birth control pills (same as the day after pill), and now get some relief. My periods only last 5-6 days now. But, for the first 3-4 I am literally on bed rest and have to stay CLOSE to a bathroom at all times. My mother has had numerous tumors/fibroids that are reoccurring. She had a hysterectomy and is fine. Doctor thinks it is just genetics. Sucks. I guess I will just deal with it until I'm older and pray that I have some babies of my own. Good luck with everything. There are a lot of women out there that have you in their prayers! Young or old(er). |

JSwan, I am sooooo sorry you are dealing with this . . . unfortunately I feel your pain and it is oh so much pain. I was actually going to suggest to the OP that she get checked for cysts. I am early 30's and have been dealing with this since I was 16. |

Well, girls - talked with my doc - he's not terribly concerned since this is infrequent for me at this point, but told me to just keep paying attention to my body. Luckily, I see my endo every 6-8 weeks, and she's really johnny on the spot with suggestions for my overall health. She's the one who caught my thyroid problem. I see her in a few weeks, and will mention this to her as well, just to see if she has any input. Sorry to hear so many of us are having such problems. Misty - my one sister just had the ablution last month. She had a longer recovery, but that's not unusual for her for any sort of procedure. So you think we can start a trend in red breeches?

DQ - it took me a LOOOOONG time to find doctors I mesh with and who I can have a mutually respectful relationship. I told my GP he's never allowed to retire. LOL |

Nothing to add but support from one aging woman to another! I'm dealing with all sorts of fun stuff too, but it's difficult to determine which things are "age" related, and which ones are really problematic. I can tell you that I really adore the big black hair (yes a SINGLE hair) that grows from my chin and it's twin relatives that seem to have a reoccuring guest role on my left bosom. |

I agreed with talk to your dr and glad you did. My mother had really heavy periods just like you (multiple tampons and pads at the same time) and they determined that for her it was just genetics. She eventually had to have a hysterectomy. I was looking for another birth control and/or sterilization and my gyn was supportive of both options but suggested Mirena. Its an IUD that stays in for 5 years. The "side effect" of it is that it stops periods in the majority of people and is approved for those that are in menopause who experience really heavy periods. She suggested that I go this route because when I start menopause there is a good chance that I will have heavy periods like my mother even if I had done a sterilization procedure. I'm trying it and so far so good. I'm still a little ways from menopause but the no period thing really appealed to me! Just a thought that you might want to mention to your dr. Good luck. |

I have a Mirena
LOVE it!!!!! It's been in for 4 years now and I've never had any issues. To be fair, I've never really had a period to speak of and they were getting lighter and lighter. Now they're just GONE!!!

Yup. Good indeed, to get some feedback! I had not talked to anyone else who had ever heard of it, or had one. I know it's been used in Europe for many years with great success.

I can write the book on your problem. But now that I am over the hill everything in that area is just fine!! Except for my body is falling apart, I am hot 24 hours a day etc, etc, etc. But i have not had a period in years and that is the grandest thing in the world. My Mother got a full Hysto at 36 so I guess I was following in her foot steps until Menopause really took over!! Good luck and let us know how you are doing!! |

I am another "been there, done that". I had multiple fibroids and exactly the periods that you described. For the last 15 or so months before I was saved by menopause, I had that period every month. The heavy flow lasted 36 to 48 hours. I do not miss it! I had a lot of precautionary tests, but everything was fine. Good luck. It really sucks big time. |
