My first born, Simone Signoret, leaves tomorrow (with me) for Southern Pines to be backed. It was only yesterday she was this size:

The first day of school is always the hardest. Do you have pictures of her now? I'd love to see them.

Day 1:

a star! Not only did she climb into the trailer with glee, as if she was just waiting to start an adventure, but, when she then descended at the farm in Southern Pines, she went into her 1/2 acre paddock, trotted around, ate some hay, looked stunned by the mini in the huge field next door (separated by fence then channel then fence), went back to eating, trotted around her new domain, called when the trailer left (I am thinking she watched him leave and realized she wasn't going too ), trotted around some more, then quietly went back to eating more hay.
I left to go to the 3-day at the Carolina horse park, to watch some really crazy people ride Intermediate cross country ( :jaw: ), returned to the farm to find Simone in her run in, just relaxing.

I loff this filly <3 She so reminds me of my old ( and now HM's)mare, her mama!

And, I very much liked the woman who is going to start her  Great environment  Great neighbors!

I will sleep so well tonight - :cloud9:

(promise, I will not be posting DAILY.... :teehee: )

Well, you will not be surprised to hear this, but Simone is doing super! We had a grooming session this morning and she was very good, then this afternoon we put her bridle on and handwalked around the neighborhood. She was brave, calm and sensible. She was very comfortable in her bridle, despite the fact that she has just lost an upper incisor. We explored the round pen and talked about the mini donkeys next door and the barking dogs and the lawnmower, etc. All of these conversations were very positive, no silliness and no panicky moments. I was VERY pleased.

FOF, she sounds like she is doing super well! What a great mind she must have. I hope that my little dear reacts so well when the time comes for her!

BTW, I second pictures!

I am not there so I am dependent on other photographers, but here is the closest I have to her now - this is a few months ago:

She is so beautiful! I know what you mean about being a worried mother. Tigger is still at least two years away from the big day, and I am already worried about how he is going to be. I love babies though.

Congratulations on raising such a lovely baby. I hope Tig grows up to be just as wonderful and level headed as she is.

thanks all. As my first child, you can imagine my <3 of her :

here is the newest update:

Simone was excellent. This morning we did our grooming, then worked with a saddle pad and surcingle. No problem, on and off, on and off then surcingle snug. Then a walk around the paddock. Lots of praise. She was very comfortable, not worried, not fidgety.

This afternoon we replaced the surcingle with the saddle. First lots of sniffing and touching while I held it, then a little concern the first time on her back, demonstrated by stepping forward, but no violent moves. When she was comfortable with the saddle on and off, several times, and the girth snug enough to prevent slipping (not riding tight yet) we walked around the paddock, then out to the round pen. Walked around in hand. Very sensible, no concern or worry. Then loose at walk and trot. Only tough part was convincing her that I dictated direction and pace, not SIMONE!! She was calm and not explosive, did not get rushing around or bucking, just tried to change direction when she felt like it and stopped to sniff at interesting things without permission. When I told her she needed to move on and/or go a certain direction, she did try to present her rump in protest. I touched her with the end of my rope and she immediately moved forward, I praised her. She tried one more voluntary change of direction, I headed her off and sent her the way I wanted her to go. She handled it well. At no time did she kick, so I was not upset. She will learn the rules as long as they are fair. The saddle did not seem to bother her at all.

:cheer:
